Hornady 62 eld-vt

Anyone else use the 62 eldvt? Are they too explosive on coyotes ? I’ve heard some people say they lack penetration on animals
I’ve only shot 1 yote with that 62 v match in 22 arc shot a yote in a trap at about 100 yards stayed off shoulder busted 2 ribs going in no exit minimal damage but yote fell over dead. Never even twitched.

Good to hear. I’ve got a 22” 22 ARC on order but have 3-4 months left allegedly before I get my hands on it. I’m planning on shooting the 62 gr vt in that as well. How are you getting your 22 ARC brass?

Im using factory loads in both the 6mm arc and 22 arc both. I haven’t had any issues finding it. I buy it online.

Thanks. I just picked up a couple bags of hornady 22 ARC at gaprecision.com GA Precision. $1/case is steep for hornady brass, but George is charging $24/shipping for 100 brass… even more ridiculous.
That does seem high. I think I’m paying $1.20 for loaded round with v match. Usally with free shipping.

I didn’t think about that. I never shoot factory but that totally makes sense. I only want the hornady brass until Peterson or somebody else picks it up. Shoulda woulda coulda I guess. If I need more I’ll just by factory. I’m an idiot what can I say

Nah man just life everybody gets busy and sometimes perfect sense is only perfect once you see it.

I tried the ELD-VT 62 gr in my 22 CM. This barrel was almost broke in at the time but not quite. I didn’t test for seating depth and loaded everything for a .015” jump (.015” from the lands), and it didn’t like anything with H4350. I shoot all four CMs and every one of them loves H4350. However, best group of the day was barely MOA. This barrel likes 73/75 elds, 80 gr ELD match and 80 eld-X, 80 gr berger VLD target… so I’m wondering if they’re more sensitive to seating. Has anybody had experience with this?

Granted, this was 25 ish rounds but it was enough that I didn’t want to waste more time with it as it was just not shooting.

My 22" 8 twist 22 CM likes varget with the ELD-VT 62 gr. Load details here: Hornady 62 eld-vt

Thanks IlliniFan. I just checked my notes and I did in fact run Varget not H4350… I also verified my seating depth and I was not .015” jump, it was .115” jump. I shot 39.0 gr at 3,585 mv-40.5 gr @ 3,755 mv of Varget in .3 gr increments. All groups were just under MOA but not by much. I wonder if such a long jump isn’t good, but my throat is more for a longer bullet and I didn’t want to leave so little bullet in the neck. I might try again and shorten my jump to the lands.

What is your seating depth on those loads?

I'm at approximately .127" jump, 2.580" coal on my ELD-VT 62 gr. loads.

My throat is also for a longer bullet, specifically for a Berger 80.5 gr. Fullbore. The 80.5 FB gauge below is from the gunsmith compared to my ELD-VT load.

Talked to my smith and he ordered a custom 22 GT Reamer just for the 62gr eldvt. He's shooting them in a .050 freebore 22bra and they hammer. Will probably have a 26" barrel and a 18" 1-8 twist.

I'm probably going to order a 22 GT reamer and from my preliminary measurements I think .050 FB put the bullet where it needed to be. I'b be interested to see a dummy round showing the boat tail junctions location in the neck.

He ordered one from PTG ! I can cut a case here soon and see what we have

Oh boy, good luck with that.

PT&G now reminds me of an eating place in town, you could order whatever you wanted, doesn't mean you would get it.
He has Goodluck with them. I told him I wouldn't go that route. I have ordered items only after I confirmed they were in stock.

My last, figuratively & literally, took three times to get it right, which really never was either.

I ordered the same reamer from JGS, & sent in my PT&G reamer to have them measure it for me.

It was so far off in every dimension, it wasn't even funny.

Well glad I'm not the gun smith 😅

Here are a couple of shots in the last week with the Hornady 62 grain ELD-VT. Mixed results:
IMG_3012.jpgIMG_3021.JPG

In the first coyote, he ran at least 20 yards, with the second coyote running about 100 yards. This was not what I was looking for in a bullet. My plan now is to get into the Berger VLD line of bullets. I have had amazing luck with the 80 grain Berger VLD's out of my bolt gun, but in the semi auto I used above, going to run 70 grainers. I looks like I got duped by the Hornady Marketing hype. Lesson learned and hopefully others can learn from my mistake.

Good luck and happy hunting friends.
