silence can be golden !one night we got a one lone howl response. we called a few more times then went silent too. 65 minutes of silence later we had 3 coyotes walk out into the field...all 3 died.

Wait, what? You sat there for over an hour without calling and no action? That was the plan? At what point would you have decided to leave?one night we got a one lone howl response. we called a few more times then went silent too. 65 minutes of silence later we had 3 coyotes walk out into the field...all 3 died.
Silence at the end of sets has killed many a coyote back here in the East. Over an hour is extreme but I have done it and 1/4 to 1/2 hr is my norm if they have responded within a reasonable distance.Wait, what? You sat there for over an hour without calling and no action? I'm not going to suggest that you're doing it wrong, as I know a lot of different tactics can work, but at that point it seems possible that the 3 that came into the field could have been coincidental.
You too on the east wind? I live in an area where it’s predominantly a north west wind and I get hosed every time I have an east or south wind. Idk why I keep trying though.Wind from the East? Coyotes come the least!
When you have to pick the sun versus the wind? Always take the wind (in your face)
What was the weather temperature?
I hunted last Saturday, nearly 60 degrees, i know there are coyotes there, they don’t commit!
Last stand of the day and I spot a coyote at 300 yards, I am going to shoot it, it drops out of sight, I glass, catch it again at 451 yards. It lays down!!
I would have shot it, but by the grace of God for it, 3 major power lines were in my scope vision and I was NOT going to chance it for the life of me on a ZERO $$ Coyote.
I can tell you out of the 88 Coyotes my partner and I have kill beginning October 18th, very few died because they came into rabbit, bird, prairie dog or other dying critter sounds. Most died with some type of Pup distress or Coyote/pup fight.
We did get to watch a pair of nesting Bald Eagles for awhile on this stand;-)
Was wondering if anyone would mention pup distress. I end most stands w/pup distress followed by a few minutes of silence before breaking it down.I can tell you out of the 88 Coyotes my partner and I have kill beginning October 18th, very few died because they came into rabbit, bird, prairie dog or other dying critter sounds.
