Has anyone tried the Burris Eliminator?

Is there an MSRP or release date on the Eliminator III? That is a really nice looking reticle. To the non-industry posters: Natchez has had refurbs advertised for

That means that they are going to be around $1K

Those are some really nice advances in all areas. I particularly like the new housing/tube design. Have the optics been upgraded as well as the electronics, reticle, and housing? Could you compare the lenses of the three generations of the eliminator scopes to the lenses of some of your conventional rifle scopes? I hope you have success with this product. You should consider offering that reticle on your conventional scopes if you don't already.

No that means it will be around $1500.00. I was giving a true retail price and not MSRP.

The optics are nicer in the new model. I would compare it to a Signature Series as far as optical quality. It's hard to judge right now without the actual production models in hand.

The scope is a 2nd focal plane scope that works like a 1st focal plane. The scope adjusts the dot placement when you change magnification so the answer to your question is "no." Currently there isn't an Eliminator II. There is only the original Eliminator and the Eliminator III. We have no plans to discontinue the original. The Eliminator III is actually a bit lighter than the original but not by a significant amount.

I was referring to LaserScope vs. Eliminator as v. I and II I guess. This would make the new one a III.
The fact that bullet drop compensation will now be accurate at all magnifications is a very nice improvement. This is probably the most significant change in my opinion. I am not sure I care for the scattered beans of the wind adjustment reticle, looks too busy to me but this is just one user's opinion, who cares.

Ah I see. Yeah I can see how that could be confusing.

One other thing to help with the confusion is that initially in 2010 the Eliminator was for centerfires only. In 2011 we release the current version which accommodates centerfire as well as rimfire, muzzleloaders, and slug guns. Because it was an on the fly change we decided not to change the name. Some could consider the current version the Eliminator II for that reason.

I can appreciate "first hand" use evaluations but second hand observations and skepticisms are the norm rather than the rule I guess. So let me update this older topic.

This years Prairie dog hunt, leaving in the not too distant future, will have me hunting with a different rifle and scope! My newest rifle, is ANOTHER AR15 platform with ANOTHER ELIMINATOR scope. My Brother-in-law is also taking another rifle this year and guess what? It is also sporting his second ELIMINATOR scope. Now, there might be this and might be that combinations some "speculate" better for the job, but our experience put us right back to the Eliminator. And this is first generation scope, not the new yet to be released Eliminator III.

For those wanting more magnification, the III has it. For those wanting accurate rangefinding out to 1200 yards, the III has that too. For those wanting focal planes that provide better accuracy under all manifications where the Eliminator is best at highest power, the III has that too. Longer battery life, windage features and another feature or two ave available on the III. Both of mine and both of my BIL ate first generation and work on Prairie Dog just super.

Range? Yes the little critters can be difficult to range past 400 yards. Sometimes it is easy as it should be and sometimes you may not be able to pick them up for ranging. Often, this is a matter of position. We are shooting .223 V-max and for a .223, 400-450 is about all we can do anyway. By the way, my rifle club has 100-500 yard ranges from the same shooting position with backstops, steel hanging discs of various sizes at 100 yard intervals. The smallest disc at 500 yards is 5". With my lowly .223 and my Eliminator I can swing that disc 3 out of 5 times - with mild winds! Good enough for Prairie dogs is my position.

Larger game ranges better at longer range. We have seen deer, horses and a badger at longer range and have been able to range all three out to ranges beyond 600 yards. We did not shoot them!

If you are thinking people buy the Eliminator, dislike it and sell it in favor of something else, I challenge you to find a used one to buy. Sure, you might, but then search for your "better solution" and I'd bet you find a lot more of whatever that might be available on the used market.

One last thought. My ammunition use with the Eliminator scope was reduced to less than 30%. It is that accurate. One shot - one kill. And, I am no where near as good as I used to be.

Enjoy your sport before the politicians take it away.
