Great horned owl and coyote conflict?

Just wondering if anyone has ever called a Great Horned owl or other large bird of prey and a Coyote in the same stand? There are lots of owls where I hunt and I know there is coyotes also.
Called them and seen them deer hunting but I never seem to have any luck when Hooters shows up.

Yeah,I called in a marsh hawk earlier this winter, and while it had me distracted a coyote loped right past me about fifty feet away. She stopped though, so I got her.

I think the bird might draw the coyotes attention away from you, so I see it as a good thing.

There's always been Burrowing owls in places where I've hunted.
I have lost count of how many have showed up looking for a meal, while I was calling.
I've had them land a mere 50 yards from me at times, and just stare.
Then had coyotes run right past them, coming to the call.

Calling in an owl is actually beneficial while on stand. The bigger owls have very few if any known predators so they are pretty much fearless unlike other birds of prey. An owl will sit still and watch other predators coming into the call. Watch where the owl is looking as it will provide an early warning system as to where a predator may be on the approach.

I have never taken a coyote when an owl was present. But on several occasions owls have given me the edge before a few foxes have shown up.

Last season I Called in a Coopers hawk and a red fox came out of the cedars about 45 seconds later which I promptly missed.
Last week I scared a bald eagle away as I crunched across the frozen snow on the way to a stand next to a frozen river then an hour later I called in a great horned owl but no coyote.
Last month I had a snow owl come down just at dusk and carry away my decoy. Again no coyotes but I don't think one rules out the other. They are all predators. just seems the ones with wings get there first.

When hunting in S Texas I have always called in owls......but I was told it was the Lechuza

An Urban Legend of South Texas and Mexico.......about an owl or other bird of prey that "shape-

shifts" A large bird of Prey, ( Generally an Owl ) with an old womans face..

Well, you gotta talk about something to scare your sons and daughters when there's n ocoyotes coming in ...haha

Many times I've called up and owl and then later a coyote came in. Can't recall actually shooting a coyote while the owl was present though unless I have during a night hunt I've forgotten about.

Once I actually had a coyote coming in and a bald eagle dive bombed him coming within feet of the coyote two different times as the coyote ran along a ridge to me. Man it spooked the heck out of that coyote! That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen while calling coyotes! Only thing I could figure was that the eagle was either just messing with the coyote or that he was hoping that the coyote might have something in it's mouth that it might drop as the eagle approached that close?

Called in a tiny little owl last week and had it land just above us in a tree. Not a minute later we hammered a grey Fox that ran almost to the speaker. Best part was after spending the night in the trunk of the rental car, the following morning I went out to skin it, opened the tru.k and it barreled out of the trunk and gone for good with my kids standing right beside me!! True story!! Just knocked it out. Hundreds and hundreds of Fox to my credit and never had a zombie one before!! Maybe it was because of the owl?? Lol.

I have seen it enough to keep an eye out for owls, had this one follow a coyote in for 600 yards and circled the coyote the last 100, till I shot him. saw this several times in one night on that hunt,

I figure a owl will steal game from a coyote just as fast as a coyote will steal from an owl, or maybe the owl is above watching for flushed mice & rats? any way its always been a good indicator that my calling is working

I had one of the strangest experiences about a year ago. I was walking about 3/4 of a mile after a dry stand back to the truck at dusk with limited light. I'm just head down focused on walking and not minding my surroundings when I hear hissing. I stop and look up, and literally 5 feet from me is a hawk on the ground with wings spread standing tall hissing at me. I'm guessing he was interested in my mojo critter perhaps, I don't know.

I didn't think it was funny at first as I grabbed my mag outta the car and proceeded to miss her three times as she ran up the hill, but think it is hilarious now!! Kids couldn't wait to tell mom what happened!! Went number one and two in the trunk too. Haha.

Sorry, it was an inside joke and a poke and you were an unintended innocent caught in the crossfire.

BTW, when I worked as a Naturalist for the Department of Natural Resources I use to do "Owl Prowls" with the campers in the state parks. It was a lot of fun and I spoke about all the myths and folk tales surrounding owls throughout history. After some biology and identification lecture along with spooky folklore tales I would take the group on an after dark hike and voice hoot to locate owls. "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you alllllllllll." Easy peasy for an avid turkey hunter but it fascinated the city folk visiting the park. Especially so when the local owls responded and began to get fired up. Love those hooters!

Literally went out last night. First stand, 4 coyotes run in.
Second stand, coyotes booger barking at us and won’t come in.
Third stand, owl hoots behind us and zero deer coyotes moving.
4-7 stands, every single stand has an owl hooting, screeching, or flying across. Zero movement, sound, or animal activity.

If you don’t believe in old Indian adages or omens, you must have a gold horseshoe or platinum rabbits foot in your pocket.

I’ve been on stand in a field and had one of those BIG owls come in and land at the caller without me realizing it. I scanned back to the caller and immediately thought it was a bobcat sitting there at first glance. When it turned its head I immediately knew what it was. It was so big I was a little concerned that it could possibly pick up the caller and fly off with it, lol!
