Got one for the taxi

I started off last night by going to a very promising spot that I scouted Friday evening. Fresh tracks, scat, etc. I drew a blank and didn't even hear any in the distance. I have another tract of property not far from this one so I decided to try it since I was so close. I got a coyote off of it last year and so far this year I've called in two cats. The property is a thick and wet pine plantation with a few roads through it. I pulled off of the highway and drove about 20 yards down the main road through the pines then walked about another 20. I do this to stay close enough to the highway that the coyotes won't try to circle me. About five minutes into a rabbit sound, can't remember if it was Cagie or Mrs. I picked up two coyotes in my scanner. They were coming straight down the road so I went ahead and turned on my light. As soon as I turned on the light they seen it and stopped. I could immediately tell that they were black, but wasn't 100% sure if they were coyotes because of the white spots on their chests. They started walking in circles in the middle of the road and then I could tell that they were coyotes. I started fumbling with my video trying to turn it on. For some reason I couldn't get it to come on. They just walked back and forth for a good 15 seconds before one of them decided to step into the woods. Just then I noticed that the video was on and I got just a quick shot as the other turned. Ended up being a shorter, but fat male. It's a bummer that I didn't get both of them on camera, it would have made for some good viewing. Didn't weigh him or get any hero shots because I was trying to make it to the taxidermist before he went to bed. I think I'm going to go with a half wall mount with some logs. Also, another bang-flop for the 6mm arc.

That is a beauty buddy! Should make a very nice mount. Sounds like you'll have a future hunt planned to try for it's date at some point in the future!

Yup.
Have seen only 1 black coyote here in Okla,of course I had no gun

That's the 4th I've called in. I called in a pair a few years ago and shot one, but never found it. He was the most pure black coyote that I've ever seen.

How common are black yotes down there in SC would you say? Theyre nonexistant up here in the pnw. Plenty of black wolves, but no black yotes. In may im planning on going to north carolina for a week or two to visit an old friend. Toying with the idea of bringing A rifle down and doing some yote hunting. The biggest problem with that i see is the high frequency of private land. I have to think if i go door knocking with a western accent i wont get a lot of positive responses, sure, go ahead and hunt here! More than likely theyll think im a kamala voting city boy when i open my mouth.
