Gopher Hunting Tips and Techniques (long & revised)

We had bounties on pocket gopher here for many years. I used #0 or #1 long springs, probe for the run under the mound with a steel rod. Carefully dig down, place trap in run and cover. Run traps the next day, leave the stake wire loose, than you know if there is a catch(wire is tight). Easy money for a kid.

I'm not sure what a #0#1 long springs trap looks like. I was using Victor easy set style and attached a 3 ft wire and stake. I did everything you described except maybe how I covered the hole. I would just cover it with the sod from digging. I read later that others would cover the hole with a piece of plywood or black plastic bucket.

Fixed my post #0 or #1 long spring. I just covered the long spring with the gopher mound dirt. I semi hid my activity at the mounds, as many were in road right-a-way and I didn't want my traps stolen.
