Getting there

My wife's family thinks that me I'm going to die doing crazy Sh-t in the desert. They didn't know me when I was doing crazy stuff in the snow, or coastal estuaries.. She tells them "at least he'll go out doing what he loves".

DR thanks for the offer. It was a challenge for me to get out, it would have been a least another day or two before I called for help.

Got stuck in gopher hole sand Christmas nite, kicked in the 4wd on the ATV to get out. 5" rain next day. Got stuck a previous time and got winched out. 4WD didn't help any.

Well it happened, I finally got stuck. First time I've had to break out the recovery gear since my hunting partner backed it into an irrigation ditch in 2010.

It hasn't rained here in months and you leave plume of dust traveling the back road that can be seen for miles. I'd been hunting all day and was headed back home. The road was clear and flat when the bottom just dropped out from under the truck. A stock tank had flooded the road for a long time but had been fixed long enough for the surface to dry. and I dropped right into it. I worked on it three hours Friday night and got about halfway back to dryland, solid fence post 150 of rope and chain shovel and 2 ton Lugall and a lot of effort. It got dark and I couldn't see what I was doing so decided to stay the night. I called my wife, trooper that she is says "so your camping out on the desert tonight". Don't you love it when they don't panic and just take it for what it is, another adventure. One of the reasons I like the van so much, it has a furnace, solar power food water, a comfy bed and clean cloths. Saturday I got up at daylight and put another four hours in and got her free. I was a little sore on Sunday.

I think the worst of it all was I didn't see a coyote all day and as I was driving out one ran across the road in front of the truck and I swear I could hear him laughing.
You should have sent me a text or given me a call. I would come and give you a hand if I'm available. The washed out roads can be a real hazard in the desert SW.
