I have always wanted go get into hunting and growing up I would hear stories of the other boys shooting deer and going hunting with their dads. Mine was always working and it wasn't really his cup of tea. We are five children and didn't have much growing up. I never bothered to ask for much since I new things were tight. As I've gotten a bit older I have worked hard and have been blessed in life to finally be able to afford some things. I started hunting later in life and this year I bagged my first turkey in the Spring, first coyote in October and on Saturday my first buck.
I hunted opening day, November 15th with no luck, but things turned around Saturday afternoon. I was hunting my coworkers 40 acres and the wind was blowing from the east. The deer had been eating in an open field to my east and so I positioned myself to their west so that they wouldn't catch my scent. They started moving through the woods towards my direction, 6 does in total. I had decided that I would probably shoot one of these does, since the land owner wants to thin the herd on his property. They worked their way until they were almost in front of me. One of the does stepped out to an opening and as soon as I set my cross hairs on her; this buck stepped out as well. He had probably been following her and I hadn't seen him. I repositioned myself and at 75ish yards I made a noise that caught his attention and squeezed off the trigger. The adrenaline surge afterward had me shaking so hard I had to get up and go for a walk. After waiting for 45 minutes i went looking and found him 50 yards away piled up. My shot had been a bit low and back but the autopsy revealed I destroyed his liver. He's not huge, but he's my first and a trophy to me.
