We used to have a bunch of competitive shooters here back in the day, how many of you guys shoot competition and what discipline???

I regularly shoot PRS and I'm dabbling in ELR stuff currently.

Wouldn't call me a competitive shooter but occasionally participate in a local LR varmint shoot. MOA targets, 5 distances starting at 800yrds out to 1200yrds. 4 rounds in 5 min each distance with no sighters.
I'm usually in the running....

For last place.

Is that at PVGC??? I almost shot one of those matches, looked like fun! I did compete in the PRS match there in September and won it, they had a hard time understanding how someone from the east that they had never heard of beat them on their own court!!

Dinosaur here, shot NRA HP XTC over 25 years, F class for a few and 50 ft RF, 50 & 100 yd RF sprinkled in the mix. Had to hang it up in '99 due to arthritis nixing prone shooting. Did shoot a few 800, 900, 1000 yard matches (Both Palma and some any/any matches), but the 1000 yard ranges were too far to travel regularly.

Never did. Was asked to try out for state guard team but could not attend due to college finals. Was shooting on an army post AMU in 1961 but would have had to extend for the Perry matches, and that would have ended in a divorce :D. I make the right decision on that one, as we'll soon celebrate our 69th anniversary. :)

Club bench rest, some target shooting with the ROC army, some small bore target in highschool, PM Egg Shoots ànd a couple postal BR matches. Lots of trap and international skeet and shot international trap in Taiwan on the MAAG team.

I used to compete in one or two LR matches each year.
A roving two-man team tactical type steel match. You had to find your targets on each stage. Lose points for misses and for not engaging a target.
LR range BR match: 500, 750 and 1K. Paper targets with 5-shot for group.
I do both of these matches with my specialty pistols.
I also do 1K F-Open or F-TR...Very rarely though (Rifles). With a new range coming this summer in Rapid city, I hope to get some 600 yard Open or TR in on a more regular basis.

YEA Clarence, correct decision was made!

No close competition (rifle) in my area. The m12 I picked up is for the twice a summer match about a hour away. BIL talked me into going. The mental aspect(staying in shooting technique for several hours) is the biggest hurtle for me, having my own rifle/ammo should allow me to practice.

Across the course Service Rifle. Parked the ARs after going Distinguished, now shooting the Garand, M14, & Vintage Bolt (1917 Enfield). Have shot Perry since 2009.

Gotta love those Garands & 14's! Never owned a '17; bet they would be somewhat of a challenge on rapid fire strings w/the cock on closing bolt? Never shot an AR in competition; always admired those that did, especially on a windy day @ 600. :ROFLMAO:

Was shooting master scores on AMU w/Garand. When Uncle Sam cut off the ammo, per diem, etc. the young family didn't allow time or $$ to continue as civilian.

In 1983, 21 years after separation, TSRA sponsored a 1903 commemorative match at the State Service Rifle Match which attracted my attention. Rifles had to be as issued 03's or A3's. Wanting to see all those old Springfields on the line at one time, I bought an A3, scrounged every piece of M2 brass south of the Nueces River and loaded a bit over 300 rounds, enough to shoot my accurized Garand in all the service rifle matches + 30 rounds for the Springfield match. My classification had long since expired so shot as Unclassified.

The Springfield match was the last match shot on the 3rd day and I was tempted to scratch due to the 2" blister on left elbow from shooting nearly 140 rounds prone in SR matches, but figured what the heck, what's another 20 or so. The match was a 600 yard 20 shot prone, unlimited sighters, 22 minute time limit. Picked up a few places in service rifle and won unclassified in the 03 match and what a sight that was, 2 relays of 50 old springfields at one time; I was hooked.

Shot service rifle a few years but eyesight forced switch to bolt gun (aperture sights), never made distinguished but did finally make high master @ age 60 w/bolt gun. Never could get away long enough to go to Perry, but it was a fun ride!
