I'm going to be doing a decent amount of hunting coyotes this year when I get back from deployment. (one week

) and was wondering if anyone knew of anyone in the colorado springs area that buys fur, also if they buy it whole or if it has to be skinned and tanned and all of that. I live in an apartment and obviously there I dont have the garage or anything to be able to to this.
Thanks, Danny

Depending on how far you want to drive you can sell to this guy. His website is petskafur.com and he has his route and dates of pick up on there. All the towns are at least 2 hours from you. He will take them skinned or whole. We usually get $15-$25 for coyotes whole. $12-$15 for fox. If you ever plan on going to wyoming to sell i can try to find another guy's number who i've sold to in cheyene he pays quite a bit better and will also take skinned or whole coyotes and prob just about anything else.

I know ken petska personlly and there is no way he will be paying those prices for coyotes as I just talked with him. He also didn't know wheather he would be making many runs this season. Cats was the only thing he said he would be making runs to buy for sure.

RR2, now that sounds more like the sad song and dance I've been hearing for the past several years.

Why Petska would be giving 15 to 25 on the carcass when nobody else will even give a buck for em just didn't make sense.

What have you been up to this summer buddy? Got em all washed, waxed, dyed, tuned up and ready to go? How are the cats looking, price wise, for the upcoming season? Probably not good.

I think the good cats are going to be around 200.00 out here and then they really go down from there. Trying to get everything ready to start on coyotes on the 15th of oct.

The auction spoken about above is sponsored by the Colorado Trappers Association. I am the outgoing manager of that auction. It is held in Hugo, Colorado at the Lincoln County Events Center. Furs are taken at the door on the second weekend. Buyers come in mid-week to inspect the goods and the auction is on Thursday/Friday. All furs at this auction must be stretched and dried. There should be information at coloradotrappers.com.

I don't know of any buyers in the state buying major quantities of coyotes. I buy a few and know of one near Limon that buys some as well.

I have some Alaskan furs that my dad trapped in the 70s and I am looking to sell them outright. I attempted with Petska, but they wouldn't send anyone to look at them. I attempted with Colorado Trappers and Predator Hunters Association, got a call from someone who said their son would come look at them, that was 3 months ago, and no one else contacted me. I would like to know where I can sell these as soon as possible. One person I emailed offered 350.00 without looking at them in person, but I do believe they might be worth more, but need to know for sure. Any response is greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming these are tanned pelts.

Check online prices for tanned pelts prices and sell piecemeal on outdoor sights to get the highest prices. If you want to sell to a retailer/wholesaler expect to get half of the price the end used is going to pay for them or less considering their age and condition

You might want to lookup furriers(folks that use fur), there used to be one in Minturn, CO. They might be interested, but again they would like not pay wholesale prices.

Also take into consideration they are at least 50 years old and unless taken care of may not long be worth anything more than wall hanging. Even fur coats need to be stored in climate controlled storage vaults to keep their beauty.

You might think about having something made from them, depending on how many you have, mittens, hat, vests, coat, throws, or bed spread.

These are the pictures I have, can get more, but they have been worked on professionally and stored in garment bags with a piece of wood, I believe cedar, but unless actually seen in person because of their age, I know that I will not be able to get a fair price. I may not know a lot about furs anymore, but I do know seeing and feeling them is important.

Your best bet is to sell them as wall hangings. Google tanned fur and see what they are selling for, take good pics and list them on hunting sights. You don't have enough for anything other than craft projects or wall hangings unless you have a lot more than shown.

I agree with Erich (AWS) that you just need to find someone that wants them for decorative pieces. I don’t think it’s worth your time hunting down a fur buyer for what you have.

Google is your friend here. Do some investigating and list them for sale accordingly. I’m not sure what you’re expecting to get monetarily for these, but the fact that your dad trapped them back in the 70’s would outweigh any dollar amount for me personally.

Good luck in your efforts.
