I have posted this before, but its worth telling again if it saves somone from the same trouble that I went through.
My first burris was a 3-12 EER pistol scope, shortly after I bought it one of the lenses had a crack work all the way through it. Sent it back and got it fixed, no big deal. All companies make a lemon now and again, Right?
So I went out an bought a 4-16 burris Black Diamond with Posi-lock. Within a week of it being mounted on my 338 RUM, the reticle starts to spin inside the scope. So I sent it back, I got it back and the first thing that I noticed is that where they worked on the reticle they ground off the screw heads around it until they were shiny metal and upon assembly they forgot to re-black them. So if you looked into the scope in the daytime you could see shiny spots all around the reticle. Oh well I thought, I'll just run it.
So after a few weeks I noticed it shifting POI to the tune of 4-6 inches! After re-sighting it shot fine, but if I left it in my pickup overnight and through the day it would be way off again. All I could figure out is it seemed to be temperature sensitive, to the 50 + - degree temp swing. I had Darrell Holland lap my rings and check it over. Same thing.
So off to burris it went again, with a letter explaining the problem. They sent it back with the shiny area painted over, a group that they shot with it, and a letter stating that it was not the scope that was malfunctioning. So I mounted it and shot it again, same POI problem. So now I pissed. this is the fourth time its going back to them, I instruct them to actually leave it on the gun overnight with the posi-lock engaged to see the shift in poi, and to call me before they send it back.
So I made Gordon send me a shipping label cause I'm not gonna pay for it again, which he does with a lot of protest. After they receive the scope they test it the same way that they did before, mount it and shoot a group and take it right back off. They called to tell me all is fine with it again, and they flat refused to leave it on the gun overnight and re-test POI. Now I'm pissed. With much protest Gordon turned me over to his superiors. So I go up the chain of command at burris and and end up talking to someone claiming to be the VP of the company. He tells me, and I quote "This scope is a prime example of our flagship line of scopes"! I tell him that if that is the norm with a premium scope of thiers going back to them 4 times I would never buy another scope from them again! He tells me, sorry nothing I can do. So they sent it back to me.
So I mount it up and try it out again. SAME POI SHIFT!!.
After much frustration and ammo wasted, I found out that I left the Posi-lock disengaged the problem went away.
A month later I was out Bear hunting in a rainstorm, when I got back home I was cleaning my rifle up and noticed the scope had so much moisture inside it there was actually water drops on the inside running around in there.
So sent it back For the 5th time to them with a letter telling here is your "prime example of our flagship line of scopes"! Back yet again. I told them if they didn't replace the scope they should just keep it cause I sure don't want it back. They replaced it. And now its for sale so I can get a Nightforce.
I have a neighbor who had a burris black diamond too that he sent back to get a target turret installed. He got it back, mounted it up and began to sight it in when the side focus knob fell off in his hand!
He called Gordon up at burris CS and Gordon told him there is no way that could happen. My neighbor told him he was holding it in his hand in two pieces.
The scope went back. When he got it back again it looked like someone dipped their hands in grease while handling it and left it that way. Knowing what had happened to me, and not trusting the monkeys in the burris CS line, he submerged the scope in the sink. Uh oh! Bubbles! The whole scope filled with water in a few minutes in the sink.
So to prove his point he put it in the freezer, full of water, over night. The following day he wrapped in some insulation pack and shipped it off for Gordon at burris CS. They didn't think it was so funny when they got the frozen scope. After some words he got his scope back from the fine team of CS at burris with a finger print on the inside of the objective lens. He sold the scope.
