Bobcat from last night.

Was doing some calling last night over a water hole. I’d stopped calling for about 5 mins in walks this cat. I kinda thought was my Marty stouffer moment, but it wasn’t. I have no idea if he came to the call or just for a drink of water. It’s mighty hot here.

I figure he had an interest in your call, but he was after water. I say that because he went to a specific location at the water hole, most likely had been there before.

Yep I’d say your spot on, he didn’t hesitate one bit getting to where he was going. Still pretty exciting night. Lots of critters visited that water hole.

Thank you. I usually catch them in traps, rather then shootin them. That’s my 2nd in 2 weeks on this ranch. Might be a good year for them. Definitely not my normal.

Thank you, that was a porcupine and cats eat quite few out here. I’ve caught several that have quills in them. I thought man this is gonna be cool, then nothing.

Ok, went back and turned the phone sideways and enlarged it and now I see it ain’t anywhere close to a possum, lol. My bad. We ain’t got any sticky critters down here, but I have seen one mounted once.

Can't imagine a taxidermist mounting a porcupine. Brave soul.

Porcupines must be out thick this year. My mom had a dog get into one last week, my buddy had a cow get quills in her face last Friday and I saw one dead on the highway yesterday. I'll smoke every one of those things I see. They're pretty rough on other animals. If they're out in full force it's definitely a good time to be a veterinarian.

I also shoot everyone I see. I run dogs and have had a few encounters. I often even see quills in calves

Thank you. Over here they kinda happen in spurts. Ill go a good while then all of a sudden they start killing stock.

I'm not knocking people who shoot them because I have never had any experiences with them.

However, why do you kill them? Technically, the cows and dogs are the one in the wrong. I guess to me it's like people who shoot any kind of snakes, even king snake just because they don't like snakes.

I kill them for several reasons. They kill trees often out here, sometimes I eat their hind quarters. I’ll make bait out of them. I do kill rattlesnakes but not other snakes, im not one of them folks.

Rattlesnake isn’t bad if prepared correctly.
