Yes, there have been black bobcats documented in the past. Unlike black mountain lions/cougars/panthers. A black bobcat is obviously a rare thing but not completely unknown. That's a beautiful animal, a good size one too!
Can't see the eyes, but that looks like a "melanic" cat. It's a genetic defect that super pigments the cells with melanin, the opposite of cells containing no melanin (albino).
I always wanted to shoot a melanic deer. There is a small concentration in Texas supposedly.
Ive never heard of a black bobcat. I heard numerous stories of black panthers around here, but nobody can show me a picture of one. I believe a lot of the panther sightings are otters crossing land.
