Baiting

JM, it's been pretty darn cozy in the shack - warm, peaceful and quiet, good time for prayer and reflection plus my trigger finger has had some exercise lately. I didn't stay last night due to forecast of rain, and wouldn't you know it, the crippled coyote showed up. I am ready to end my season within a week or so. Would be nice to add that one to the numbers list.

Quiet time with the Lord is a double blessing when you are doing what you enjoy!

The coyotes just keep coming. These two showed up slightly after 0400 this morning. I think the upper one may be the crippled one. I plan to be in the shack again tonight. We got some snow and cold last night. Maybe that put them on the move.

In case any of you missed it, the following is a link to our recent wolf trip

Don P, you have got some targets and shooting to do. I know exactly what you mean, though. I had three on the bait the other night and I wasn't there. However, all is not lost. I hunted last night and got one of the three - a male at 80 yards. Broadside shot, very small exit, maybe the size of a penny or nickel. The blood spot on the offside looks larger than the exit was. The exit was tiny, and still amazing from a 25-06. As usual, I used the 70 gr. Blitz King that really anchors them.

Exit Side. Exit was tiny, maybe the size of a penny or nickel, the blood makes it look larger.

Week, that sounds like a good idea. I will call it EF.

Well, the coyotes keep coming and this has turned out to be my best year, currently at #15 with last night's male at 86 Yds. I believe this is one of the three that was coming, which leaves the crippled one still out there. I may get to hunt another night or two before I call it quits for the season. Even though I can hunt them all year, I choose to quit in March. Would be nice to add Tripod to the list. I am liking the new Infiray Bolt. Has held zero well.

Bullet Impact Side. Bullet Must Have Expanded Somewhat On Impact, No Exit But Broken Offside Shoulder.

The 25-06 is indeed a smasher, and the good part is that it is not destroying pelts if I would want to save them. I had one bad exit, but that was due to angle and hitting shoulder. All the others have been surprisingly light, or no exit at all. Bait hunting allows me to generally pick a broadside shot, but I think calling them might have different results due to not always getting a broadside opportunity.

Well, last night Tripod (a small female) and I finally met up. Again, the 25-06 performed great around 11:50 PM at 82 yards, but did leave an exit of about the size slightly larger than a half dollar coin. The exit was clean, no big blow out. Easily sewed up if necessary. This is the 13th kill with the new Infiray Bolt TL-35 v2.

Well 06, since Week's wife already has the moniker "Hammer", I guess I'll have to name you "Sledge Hammer." Bringing back memories of that ol' John Henry steel driving man.
