Baiting

No killing but a neat video. Chimes went off and had a bobcat in the yard. He does a faceoff with a doe. Just wanted to share with you guys. There's four minutes of video leading up to this. I'll add those when they finish uploading but the vimeo link is the best of four.

Good video, Wildflights. It’s interesting watching wildlife. I have a couple of videos showing a bobcat trying to catch a gray fox, and recently a coyote semi-chased a deer at the baitsite. Another video was where a coyote treed a bobcat. There’s a lot that goes on in the animal world that we rarely see.

When he hunkered down by the corner post, I thought he was going to try to catch that deer. Never occurred to me that a deer would take such offence.

There are much bigger cats around here. She would be wise to give them a wider berth. I doubt the longtail clan would tuck and run.

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer, so I opened my coyote season slightly early. I generally begin my self-imposed season around the last week of August or first of September. I have been watching a couple of coyotes this summer and finally decided to begin. I squeezed the trigger at 0147 this morning. It was a young male, nervous and took his time to commit to the bait. I watched him for a while before taking the shot.

I used the Ruger American Predator 6mm Remington rifle once again, and with the ATN 4k Pro 3-14 digital. Distance was the usual 60 yards. The 55 gr. Blitz King at 3720 fps dropped him like a rock, as did the other times I used this bullet. There was no exit.

Here he is in trail camera photos a few nights before.

I went bear hunting Sunday. Was going to see if we could call one in. No bears but we called in 2 coyotes. I couldn't help myself and played some coyote vocals. Waiting 6 months is tough!

No coyotes were harmed on that trip. lol

Nice job 06. On the score board!

Hasn’t got below 74* and 100% humidity since l got home Saturday here. Hope you shack has a/c or at least a fan. That gun light sure lights up.

Jmeddy, the shack does indeed get hot inside at times. I generally arrive a little early and open up the door and window to allow some air flow. The sun in late evening sets behind the cabin, and trees block it thus adding shade. In addition, I have three DC powered fans powered by my solar system that help lower the temp. There is no electricity on the farm. I let the fans pull in the cooler air until almost dark. Then a fan running inside helps quite a bit after I close up for the night. I have considered installing a small air conditioner by cutting out a section in the back wall. It would have to be run by generator, but that should cool it down plenty before nightfall. Would have to shut the generator down by dark to begin hunting. Overall I manage OK as is, and since I don’t hunt the summer months, it’s not too much of a problem.
