I was careful to stay off the shoulder, but somehow the far side shoulder/leg bones got pushed through the skin completely separating the leg save for some fur holding it on. Not a grenade hole exit, more like a rip. Could not find the entrance. 20 yard shot, whatcha gonna do? He sat there 5-6 min and I waited for him to move away from me and towards my feather decoy, but he didn't want to leave the shadows. Oh well.

Yea those cats can be pretty fragile like fox can be also. How big was that cat, about 10-12 lbs? Imagine what a 22-250 or a 243 might have done to that cat?

you need to shoot bergers if you sell the fur.i have shot hundreds and they out perfome the hornadys every time.they do their damage inside

How about that! Also called in a grey fox a few minutes later that walked over and sniffed the dead bobcat, but I let him walk. Could have dropped him on top of the cat but it would have blown him up for sure that close.

I have had pretty good luck with the Bergers too except for the 15gr MEF's.

j.Mark- thanks for the info. on fox damage.

I shot a ghog close(20yds) a few yrs back with my .17REM pin-hole entry and a small dime exit.(Factory Rem load with Horn. 25 gr HP) Not bad damage....but i have seen a splash or two on some other critters.

Wanting another .17REM to replace the one I sold...checking options now.

New CZ 527 or get a take-off CZ .17REM barrel for my CZ 527 M 1 bolt gun (Is this do-able ??)

Tell Berger I would like some 25 gr. as well. I may e-mail them. Seems like lots of interest in this bullet.

Yes but you'll have to open up the barrel channel. The 17Rem comes with a varmint profile barrel.
You'll also have to have it head-spaced, but that goes without saying.

CZ 17 Remington, 25gr Hornady HP @ 4000fps. I shot this 19lb tom at about 40 yards. Pin prick entry high chest as he sat facing me, no exit. He just tipped over dead. Insides were liquified, no blood until I held him up by the hind legs and then it came pouring out his mouth.

I'd love to see a 17-204 in there with the others, just for comparison. Dirty Dog,,, you a fan of the V-Max bullets?

Dirty Dog- Maybe its just me , but that first cat looks reall really small. Was it like a 8-9lb kitten? might be why you got the results you did

Thanks for the photo! What bullets are loaded in the 17 Rem & the 17-204 rounds that are in the photo? Just kinda wondering.

Also, how many more grains of powder does the 17-204 burn compared to the 17 Rem?

I really enjoy my 204's & see no reason why that 17-204 wouldn't be the cats meow. If I ever get the oppurtunity to build a custom I would look really hard into getting one of these. Any really notable bad quirks that come along with this chambering?

RB,
The 17 Rem has 24.1grs of Varget and either a 25gr Hornady HP or a Berger match. The 17-204 has 28.3grs of BigGame powder and a 30gr Nagel HP. Both are running 4000 fps out of my rifles.

I have another load of 26.9 grs Varget for my 17-204 with 30gr Golds. Haven't chrono'd it yet.

Shorter barrel life. I'm still on the first barrel, haven't toasted it yet.
