I am wanting to do my rifle and can't figure out what color to do it in. I would like to see a few done.

Also is it easy or hard to do. I have a air-brush so I would like to try it.

I don't have any pics handy, but it is easy. I thought about using the propellant can sprayer but decided on buying an airbrush instead.

The only thing that requires any effort is figuring out your mix ratios. The directions give you a hardener to color ratio. The only issue I had was adding a little too much hardener on one project. Cured fine but came out a little glossier than I would have liked.

For clean up I just used acetone. Cheaper than Dura Coat's thinner, but if I was going to thin it for use, I would buy their thinner.

I don't have pics but i have done two rifles and a shotgun in underbrush. with the stencils it was pretty easy. Synthetic is easier than wood for me. I also did two scopes.

This is a .204 AR I painted a couple of years ago using DuraCoat... The technician said I didn't need to prime it, but I wish I had as the paint started chipping pretty easily after a couple of years and I had the whole thing bead blasted to start over with a different process...

I am techically inept here trying to post a pic... Anyhow, I used matte clear duracoat over the Duracoat colors to help with wear resistence. The matte clear also helped mute the colors to avoid striking differences, obviously not what what OldTurtle was trying to accomplish above.

I have also used matte clear Dura Coat over regular flat Krylon colors with good luck so far. I have only had a few of my guns camo'd this way for about a year, with not a lot of hard use though.

Oldturtle,

That looks awesome. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Here's mine:

Remington model 700 ADL synthetic. Duracoat ultra flat paint.

There ia an undercoat of Duracoat paint. The ultra flat was airbrushed on by a buddy of mine.

Here is another. Remington model 700 PSS 308. The Duracoat was handpainted on the stock by my friend. The colors are a little off in the light. He snuck my initials into the camo when he did the painting.

blueline,

You might want to try photobucket. Just copy the IMG code and paste it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You should be able to thin the dura coat with acetone and make it a little
flatter. Test a small amount first to make sure it hardens but after years of
painting cars and seeing the amount of "emergency" late night substitutes
with no ill effects and especially using hotter thinners to flatten paints I think
it will work.

If anyone is interested I have some Alumahyde II that comes in an aerosol can. very close to Dura Coat. Check it out at Brownells. I will be selling some of the cans I have soon. PM me for info.

Haven't got into the airbrushing yet.

Digital camo, man you must have patients to handle doing that paint job.

+1 I'm digging that digital job! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

It's funny but the digital was easier to do than the sendero. I made my own templates from painter's tape for the sendero and it was a pain in the rear.

The DPMS .204 was the easiest. I simply tore strips of tape straight from the roll and stuck them all over the gun without any rhyme or reason. It looks better in person and kinda turned out like "shadow grass".

The Digital was pretty easy. I used the "Urban Mirage Flage" templates and it was pretty much stick and shoot.

I need to get pics in the field but it turned our really good as far as the colors. The light "specks" are Snow Grey, then AUG Green and Magpul Flat Dark Earth.

.

I'm very interested in getting set up to shoot Dura Coat. What kind of set up are you fellows using? Any one air brush better than another?
