Another broken grendel bolt...

I give up, this was a Young Manufacturing bolt which is noticeably thicker walls and lugs and pretty pricey. I'm not sure on round count, it was used with my 6 predator arp barrel years ago and sat in the drawer until this week when I got a new stoner grendel barrel, which shoots great so far. I'm not sure which way to go now, I've broken cheapies and now a good bolt, they don't seem to last over about 1500 rounds either way. Thinking about buying a couple of the cheap brownells bolts and just figure on changing them every 1k rounds.

Are you loading your rounds yourself or is this factory stuff? I loaded my own. I haven’t had a problem with my Grendel It takes backseat now been using 224 Valkrie as of late waiting to get my 22 Creedmoor build from my Gunsmith . Feel free to text me like to know what powder in charge your using. Try to help you sort out the bolt damage.

I am glad your new barrel shoots well! I would rather replace cheap bolts every 1000, than tinker with a barrel that does not shoot.

I've broke 2. One of them I was pushing pressure a little trying to get speed. I moved up to a 20" but ended up breaking another bolt. One was a JP and the other a Maxim. I don't shoot my Grendel variants much anymore because of that.
Edit Just to add that I broke an extractor first.

Thanks Sandman but I can't remember what all charges I used in the life of this bolt, but can say I've used more 8208 than anything in my previous 6 predator barrel, and this load work up was 28 gr and under 8208 with 123 amax.

I ordered a pair of Brownells bolts, they are guaranteed for life lol.

I agree arlaunch, a $45 bolt every 1 or 2k rounds isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things when you figure that's less than a lb of powder, maybe 200 rounds worth of powder. I read the 65grendel forum where they claim broken bolts aren't a problem so I guess I'm doing something wrong somehow. For the record the upper is a squared thick wall dpms slick side. Carrier is unknown, I've had so many and have swapped this for that over the years. 20" rifle length gas, adjustable gas block set to barely lock back. Suppressed, which I think definitely adds to bolt stress.

I look at it this way, better this grendel bolt, which is replaceable, than one from my G2 243's, or my 30 RAR, both of which would be impossible to find. But both of those are much stronger designs to start with.

Man I've never broke a bolt. I use mainly maxim bolts though
