6mm mongoose...very impressed

I've had my mad dog weapon system 6mm Mongoose for 5 months now and everything I take it out im more happy with it.

I took a 300lb boar with it in February. It shoots 80gr GMX 2820fps.

I've shot prairie dogs with 87gr Vmaxs going 2750 out to 300yds.

Today I found a load with 55hr SBKs and my average velocity out of my 18" barrel was 3461fps. SD was 2 and ES was 7.

This is going to be an great coyote rig. It shoots well below MOA with all of it.

Anybody else sporting the Mongoose?

Hornady will make dies for it for about $80, but also bruce Finnegan who is their barrel maker makes dies for it.

Its a great little efficient round.

The mongoose is cut down a touch and has a blown out case and has a 40degree shoulder so it has between 32 and 33gr of water capacity.

The big thing is that it can seat bullets up to the 105gr Amax and still fit in steel mags (2.295").

You would be using up a lot of case capacity in a 6x45 and not be getting the same performance.

Here's the cartridge info:

No not in the mongoose, but I have in my .243 and it is hands down the best, most fur friendly bullet I've used other than my 25gr HPs for my .17 remington. They are amazing they do not exit. Last year I shot a 15lb pup at 80yds and it still didn't exit that clyote . I'm thinking this combination will be awesome for coyotes.

Looks suspiciously like a 6TCU trimmed short by .050 with a new name put on it. A reamer print would be interesting, but makes little difference as there is little if anything that can be done to the 223 case that has not already been done years ago.

How accurate is this while fire forming. Fire forming is one thing that turns me off on these varmint cartridges because it cuts down your barrel life especially if you want to have a lot of brass ready to load on hand. This is one reason I'm drawn to the 6 x 6. 8.
55's at 3500 to 3600 and 70s close to 3300 in a 22" barrel with one pass through a die and no fire forming. However with the advent of the Bear Creek Arsenal ambidextrous charging 243 uppers for $300 it's tough to go with anything else for those hunts close to the truck especially at night.
