6mm BR

Uncle, I ran them for years. We used as long 14-12 Twist barrels as we could stand shooting 60g sierra's with H335 and would get 10K rounds on a barrel, IF the chamber reamer used had zero freebore. Today, the 55g Noslers I shoot in a 27" at 3850, and 65g V max at 3550, 70g tnt at 3500, all with AA2230 or H335 using only 7 1/2 primers.

When the wind comes up, it would help to have a 243, 6x47 Lapua, or 6 XC with .030 freebore and shoot the 87g V max with AA2700 or Win 760, which would help throat wear.

The 6BR is a good choice. My results are pretty much the same as Ackleyman's. Some things just work. Best powder in my rifle is AA2230, nothing else I've tried will equal it with lighter bullets. I shoot 55's and 58's, this cartridge has a pretty wide accuracy window from 34 to 35.5gr of 2230. Best loads in my gun are 35.0gr/58vmax@3855 and 35.5gr/55BK@3919. Mostly Rem. 7-1/2s but BR4's are also good. Your results may vary. Very accurate with 65's too but I haven't shot anything with them. Thing about these light 6mm bullets is, their ballistic coefficient is the same or better than the same weight .22cal bullet. And this cartridge uses less powder to go just as fast as a 22-250 (or faster), also more accurate. My rifle has a 24" Hart barrel, braked. I've never checked the twist, I'd guess 12 or 14".

I've got an 8 twist 6BR and thinking strongly of building another one with a 12/13 twist for the lighter pills. It's a very accurate caliber.

I have 2 8"twist 6BR norma's. Both are 25" barrels plus muzzlebrake. My wife shoots one and my 9year old shoots the other. We use mostly 105 weight bullets but they work very well. I have never had one with slow twist but they work. If you build one with fast twist, it will still shoot light bullets well but the heavy slugs will have much less wind drift for the longer range PD's plus it could fill in some of the gap of the the long range options ackleyman mentions. Very low recoil especially with muzzle brake, barrels last a long time, fairly cheap to shoot.

I’m looking at doing a Switch Barrel setup with a WTO SwitchLug, lightweight 6.5x47 Lapua with a CF barrel for toting around, and a 6mm BR, heavy SS barrel for sitting on a bench shooting PDs. Will probably use a Bighorn Origin, with a TriggerTech, and put it in an AG Composites stock.

Went out shooting this one and a Rem 700 with a 1-12 twist today. The Kimber with the 1-8 loves the Hornady 58 Vmax. Shoots the 55gr Nosler Varmegeddons really good too. I leave my straight 6X scope on it. I love this rifle.

The 1-12 is a varmint contour and shoots the 55 Varmegeddons really nice too. I have a bunch of 75 Vmax bullets I thought I would try out for the colony varmints someday.

I've got almost the same setup in 223AI, just getting the barrel cut from 22" to 18" like the 6BR's and threaded for my can. Been pretty impressed with it too.
