The .338 is my all time favorite rifle for everything (even shot a few coyotes with it if it was in my hands at the time) and they're not all that bad. I will say, I don't save S TX pelts, so that's not an issue but have shot a number of deer with the 338 and, yes, it makes a little bigger hole, but picking my shot (broadside) with well built bullets and proper placement (tight behind shoulder) wastes very little meat (using either 210 NP or 200 Accubonds). If you plan to go large caliber for particular game, just pick "thick skinned" bullets for less damage.like shooting white tail with 338 it’s not gonna be friendly at all
