i know that a .22lr is not enough gun for a coyote but what if i shot them with an Aguila “Sniper Sub Sonic” 60 grain Round Nose?

They'd maybe not hear the gun shot before they ran away....?

They would'nt hear the gunshot but they'd run off after the bullet hit them.I think thats what he meant.
I agree the .22lr is'nt a reliable coyote killer. If you go with a rimfire for killin coyotes shoot a .22Mag and keep the shots within 50 yards or less.

You'll will drop em' like a bad habit with that .243 but they are a little rough on fur.So if you plan on skinnin the coyotes you kill I would ask some of the guys here that what they shoot out of their .243 to save fur.
Good Luck!!!

I just realized your age, so sorry if I seemed a bit terse in the first reply. Honestly, I don't understand the problem at all. The .243 was made to be a double duty deer/varmint round and lots of people use it exactly for that work. I do too, I use a couple of .243 rifles all the time for about everything that walks, crawls, or flies in my neck of the woods. It isn't a problem at all, things die right on schedule. I think you are overthinking the situation, deer bullets kill coyotes just fine. Go shoot some and you'll see for yourself!

Id say, shoot one with the .243. See what happens. If the damage is more than you think is necessary, you can get insight from other shooters here as to the better loads for Coyotes. Good Luck.

GC i am planning on keeping the fur from the predators that shoot thats why i was considering using the .22. how fur friendly is the .243 and what bullet do you use?

Fur friendly and any high velocity centerfire can be a tricky thing. What deer bullet are you sighted in for?

The 22LR will kill Coyotes,,,, problem is,, 99.9% of the time they'll run off to die a slow death..
I applaud the fact that you want to save the fur but show the prey some respect,,, use the 243 and learn how to sew..
If ya don't reload,, there's some 55 grain factory loads out there that can't be any worse than the 55gr 22/250 stuff some guys swear by..
I'd use Soft Points, or Hollow Points rather than the trendy plastic tip stuff,, but that's just me..

Good Luck
Charlie

federal 100gr soft points are a great fur friendly bullet (IF) you keep the shot off of the shoulder as this seams to through rather large chunks of bone through the coyote.......and well I am no where near that good at sewing

The various 100 gr. or more stoutly constructed "deer bullets" are more friendly than a lot of "varmint bullets" in the .243 cartridges. Good advise above about staying off the large bones in the shoulder or spine if you can.

Well, that's a pretty big exaggeration. You will lose a lot, though, unless you call them in close and put one through the eye socket. Probably get busted a lot trying that strategy. Body shots, they'll run off most of the time.

There are sure a lot of deer poached with 22 LRs every year, so they're not as ineffective as the description.

I'm just sayin.

Use the .243 with a soft-point hunting bullet, you'll end up with more fur in the long run.

The problem with the subsonic is the sub speed. They are less powerfull. I have shot them before and had them bounce off of a 1x4 holding up the target at 10 yards.

Dirty Dave,
I think he was talking about the .22cal Aquila Sniper Sub Sonic round with a 60 gr bullet...if I am correct then penetration at 100 yards on a dog ...or Deer sized game is not an issue ...speaking of issue it was issued to law enforcement to take out attack and alarm dogs on drug and gang raids...and worked well it is also used by wildlife control officers for the purpose of deer removal from airports and other sensitive areas where a high power round would not be feasible ....and it continues to work very well for this purpose!

I've used them on feral dogs on the ranch.
I keep my shots under 50 yards and I only go for side head shots.
Those shots are just a hair above and behind the ear canal.
They will do the job nicely.
But they would probably suck on any kind of body shot.
They are quiet but trust me, the dogs and coyotes will still hear the shot.
I "quieted" my rifle down and with the Aquila Snipers, you can probably still
hear it 30-45 ft away. Quiet is the main reason I use them as I am usually
dealing with packs of dogs and like to get that 2nd and 3rd shot off if possible.
Normal .223 or even a normal .22 shot and those dogs are gone in a flash.
