22 Creedmoor Recommendations

I built one. I went 9 twist specifically to shoot the 53’s and as heavy as would stabilize with a 9 twist. Rifle +2, 3 tungsten buffers, 20” barrel, SLR adjustable gas block.

With the gas shut off it shoots really well. With the gas on it doesn’t shoot as well and is extremely hard on the brass.

I’m going to try either 70 grain Bergers or 69 TMK’s.
69 tmk should do well

Started a thread about 22-250, but brass is virtually impossible to find, especially Laupa, so I'm starting a different thread to discuss a possible 22 C build.

What action do you recommend? I'm fond of the 700 action but considering finding something with a 60 degree bolt lift.
I know a lot of shooters like the 1:8 T for the heavies, but not sure how it will do with 40, 50 & 60 grainers (overspin/RPM). Thoughts?

Note: More than likely, I will go with an 18-20" X-Caliber or CBI barrel
I didn't read all the replies, so forgive me if this is redundant. I had a Savage 111 in 6.5CM that was practically impossible to develop a load for, spun off the barrel, installed a Criterion 22 Creedmoor 1 in 7" twist, shooting 77 SMK into .6" now with very little load development.

I got all the reloading components together such as dies, brass, primers(had), powders (had), bullets in 62 gr, 75gr , & 80 gr.

Just need to decide whether I want to build an AR 10 or BA first and barrel length.

Appreciate all the feedback.

I bought a Horizon Vandal in January. Its a sweet rig but I will say customer service is not good. I have had an issue with the mag. feeding. It took them weeks to get back with me. They sent me a new mag but I continued having the same issue. I emailed them 2 weeks ago with no answer. I have replaced the mag with a different brand I had laying around and the gun works flawlessly with it. Overall gun is a clean tack driver but customer service is terrible from Horizon.

Welcome MJ....
I'm thinking this probably not the norm.

I decided to move forward with the 22 Creedmoor BA build. I ordered a Solus action, Trigger Tech Primary Trigger (I like my hunting trigger between 2-3lbs), X-Caliber 20" Carbon Fiber Barrel w/ 8T and still looking at light weight chassis with a folder or carbon fiber stocks. I also will be running a dedicated can for this build (DDC Enticer L Ti) which I picked up a last month).

Already have dies, headspace gauges, Alpha brass, three types of bullets (62, 75 & 80 grainers), Fed 210 primers and the following powders: Varget, H4350, and Staball 6.5.

Yesterday on my drive back from Louisiana I was saying to myself, self if I could get my 22 creed build components back in the next couple weeks and load development goes well, I might be able to hunt with it this season.

I'll be, today I got my TriggerTech and my Solus Action arrived at my FFL (see pics) along with receiving an email that my X-Caliber barrel will be here this Thursday.

Nothing ever goes this smooth for me, so I decided to take advantage of my lucky streak and bought a lottery ticket today :)

Haven't decided if I'm going with a magnesium chassis with a folder and carbon fiber furniture (26oz) or a traditional stock looking stock made from carbon fiber. In the meantime, I'll use either my Magpul Hunter stock or my XLR Chassis with folder that I just had painted "Tequlia Sunrise"

Did you guys happen to Chrono it? Unknown Munitions is selling tikka barrels for $100 bucks and I was thinking about getting one. I’ve only had slow tikka barrels though so that’s my only hesitation.

Factory ammo 80 gr Eldx and M via a Garmin. 18" barrel with a suppressor was 3072 for 10 shots

I believe that's right on par with the Horizon guys .

Girls/Boys,

Good thing I was feeling lucky yesterday as I bought a lottery ticket and won, of course, it was $15 ....still better than a poke in the eye.

With that BS out of the way, I loaded up 50 rounds using Hornady 55 SP (got free with dies), Alpha brass to fire form and following X-Caliber break-in procedures.

PS: Attached a pic. Saving the other 50 pieces of brass for future use or sell.......lol

Test fitted the Solus action in an existing XLR chassis today in preparation of the arrival of the barrel tomorrow.

My barrel finally arrived today after two days of being delayed by FEDEX. Got her together, checked headed space, torqued, bore sighted and taking her to the range to fire form brass and break-in.

Went to the range today and got my brass fire formed. After I got back from the range, I was looking at Hornady's 11th Ed Load Data (Online) for the 62 Gr ELD-VT and it's shows the COL @ 2.640". Made a case gauge out a fire formed piece of Alpha brass and the bullet touches the lands @ a COL of 2.627".

Just goes to show how a reloader must always be on their toes and check, check, check, check, and re-check.

Forgot to mention; tumbled brass, annealed, bumped shoulder .001", checked trim length (all within spec), and this week I'll start load development using Win 6.5 StaBall and 20 thou off the lands.
