22-250 load for coyotes

52 gr Speer flatbase HP, 35 grains Varget, Fed 210 primer if I can get em. About 3650 fps. Not super fast but just right. Classic fur load but hollow point thumps them.

My all time favorite .22-250 load is 55 grain Berger(Target) bullets, 36 grains RL-15 and CCI Bench rest primers and Lapua brass…..Runs about 3700 fps….

Too bad it's not a 1x9 or 10. My TC predictor 22/250 22" is a 1x12 but it stabilizes a 62 gr ttsx fine, but it has to be going as fast as I can load it. I have yet to have any runaways. Not very fur-friendly

Try a Sierra 63 grain bullet. Made for 14 twist barrels and is made to handle ultra velocity rounds. I use them in a 9 twist barrel and get nickel sized groups with H380 running 3440 fps. It hammers pretty good! You can find them pretty cheap at the moment too.

As you can see the bullet doesn't really matter find what you like most can be made to shoot. As far as pelt damage goes it varies some. But that can be controlled somewhat with velocity.

I have used Varget with good success in the 243, but for some reason had low velocities using it for the 22-250. I get good accuracy and velocity with H380. As I recall, the owner of Hodgdon shot the 22-250 back when it was still a wildcat. He had an some old powder that had been used in WW2. He would load 38.0 grains and got perfect accuracy and velocity, so he named the powder H380. At least that is the story that I read. I have tried 38.0g in my 1/10 twist Ruger American and it prefers 39.0g and shows no signs of pressure. The last time I took it to the range it shot a .78" group with an average MV of 3518 fps. The Standard Deviation was 21 fps. This was using the 55g NBT.

NOTE: I am not a new member. Previously I was Calcoyote but, when the forum underwent the big upgrade a couple of years ago I was no longer able to login so I was unable to post. I tried emailing the moderators, but I guess there was nothing that could be done, so I lost all my posting history. Still love this forum though. It is good to be back.

There is something that can be done. Send a personal message to Stu Farish and he can get you back up and running. He is Webmaster.(y)

The 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint is my favorite bullet in my 22-250s and 22 Noslers. I load for both of them with H4895
