. I've done skull mounts on a Gemsbok and a Scimitar Horned Oryx and you have to slip the horn sheath off and clean off the stub and let it dry or I'm told they will smell. They slip off pretty easily. The Gemsbok:

I had one scimitar skull mount done (on the right) and decided to do the next one myself (on the left). Used a piece of mesquite for the base so I could cut it thicker at the top so horns would clear the wall. Since the log had been in my wood pile for at least a year, I figured it would be cured. It had been hanging at least 6 months or more when it cracked right where I drilled the hole in back for hanging and dumped the whole thing on the tile floor. That resulted in the missing nose.
