I bought a YHM 9645 hand guard and the barrel nut is already loctited into the tube. my question is how do you torque the barrel nut 40 to 80 ft. lbs. with a strap wrench? Is there a strap wrench made to do this job?

The barrel nut needs to go on first. Then put the tube on. The nut and tube shouldn't loctited together until after you have your barrel on.

It came from yhm with the nut already loctited in tube. I need to know if there is a strap wrench that a torque wrench will work with to install it. The instructions from yhm says use strap wrench and torque to 40-80 ft. lbs.

Interesting, sorry for the miss information. I haven't seen a hand guard like that before. I don't know if they a make strap wrench you can hook a torque wrench to or not. You don't absolutely need to have torque wrench though. Tighten the tube down as tight as you can using your hands, back it off and repeat 3 or 4 times. Then attach the strap wrench and use it to line up the gas tube holes up. This should put you between 40-80 ft. Lbs. Or call YHM and see if they have a special strap wrench. Let us know how it turns out.

I would send it back. A strap wrench will not do it. Aside from that, it will be a huge pain in the a&& to line up your gas tube. If your intention is to have the handguard cover your gas block, it will not work at all. Call YHM and verify that the two pieces are glued together.

Are you sure it is not a one piece FF tube? Their description on it says it threads right onto your upper reciever. It doesnt sound like it has a seperate barrel nut.

Ok, just got off phone with YHM and he told me to remove delta ring/barrel nut and install forearm. He said the barrel nut is loctited in forearm already and just tighten up on receiver until gas tube hole lines up. He also said that I will never get 40 ft. lbs. on the forearm even though the instructions that came with it says torque to 40-80 ft. lbs. with a strap wrench. I used a strap wrench that I found and torqued it to 45 ft. lbs. I did not back it off for gas tube I just tighten it more until my gas tube tool went through. everything seems ok, I need to shoot a few rounds though it to make sure but it seems fine.
