I got this rifle from my dad with a few other when he fell sick a few years ago and have often thought of selling it. He bought it off a fella in the mid 90's that needed the cash. I personally have only shot a it a few times and that was years ago. I don't know much about it. I see them on Gunbroker ocassionally but don't seem to be a hot item. Honestly, I would rather part with it and let some one enjoy it, than let it sit in my safe. No rust, average wear, no major damage to the gun with a serial number in 8000ish. So I guess I am asking what would you guys do with it in regards to keeping it or selling it. Sorry the pics ain't great.

It is funny about certain things you inherit from your father. Some things have sentimental value, and some don't. For example my father bought a brass back scratcher many years ago, and he used it all the time. Then one day he gave it to me. It is probably worth $5. But it was my dad's, and I cherished it. I broke it the other evening, and I hate to admit this but it brought tears to my eyes. I have a couple of rifles that I feel the same way about, but then there are some other firearms he gave me that I sold. So no one should think bad of you if the rifle truly has no sentimental value to you.

I can't tell you whether you should or should not sell the rifle. But if you decide please give me a call when you price it. I am loking for one in 25-20 or 32-20. Tom.

You may want to hang on to it just for an investment. Going off my feeble memory, model 53's were only produced from 1924 through 1933 and only 25,000 were ever made. There are a number of Winchester collectors who would love a 53 to add to their collections. As far as I can tell, other than the tang sight which I am not sure about, everything on the rifle looks original. So there will always be a market for the gun.

The value of this gun is only going to increase over time. If you don't need the money, hanging on to it is like putting money in the bank.....you can always withdraw it later.

Too many "family" guns get sold off for whatever reason...I've got a few of my Dads and I'm never closer to him than when I'm shooting them.

Bottom line...keep it, shoot it, and you probably ought to kill a few coyotes with it...

Neat, handy little rifles...
