I ordered five boxs of five shells at $9.99 a box from Basspro and a Carlson Dead Coyote choke for my 1187 turkey/supermag. Does anyone use these shells with this choke? If so do they work as good as the expensive Dead Coyote loads?

i've shot almost every load that you can think of including the "wounded coyote" load. the #4 buck works better than anything else i've tried and is now the only load i'll use on coyotes. i ordered a case of them after testing loads for a few years. very rarely do i need a follow up and even more rare is the dog that runs after being shot.

there are a number of guys that swear by the dead coyote and HD loads but i had terrible luck with them. there are a few threads on here that debate the 2. in one thread we brought in some experts that test loads for the FBI to get their input and they agreed that lead #4 buck should work better than an HD load. they said "should" because they didnt test the load on coyotes but from their extensive testing lead performs significantly better.

there will be those that disagree and that's fine; use what works for you.

There's nothing wrong at all with lead Number Four Buckshot. It has worked well for a long time and will continue to do so. The problem I see with what you've done is, you ordered a bunch of the stuff not knowing if it will actually pattern well for you yet. Personally, I would have ordered one box of those and one box of several other No. Four Buck loads and shot them all on pattern papers on the range to see which actually shot best - then stock up with the load that shoots best. It is like searching for the best shooting load for your big game rifle, most likely you tried several choices to see what shot best before settling on one particular load.

It's too bad DC is so expensive . I've shot around 5 boxes of it now and I like it. I just bought a box yesterday, cause I was out. Its the only box I've ever paid full price for. I shoot DC and plated 4 buck, both work well. For the longer shoots I'll take DC everytime.

If you don't pattern your shot/shotgun to see how it works, your wasting your time and $$ AND a blown chance at a critter .

PM Rooster and ask him how that combination shoots out of my remington 870 supermag. ANymore its beginning to be a moot point. Plenty for most any shotgun type hunting.

I still love the hevishot #2 goose loads though. It my all around favorite.

BTW, if it doesnt shoot for you, Ill buy it off ya

I have used # 4 Buck for over 40 years in all sizes 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2 inch, and have had very good results. How ever I limit my shots to the appropriate yardage for the Round I am using. But I always pattern my Gun,with the Rounds I hunt with.

Howerver my favorite Coyote Load is # 2 Heavy Shot Goose Load, it is and awsome Round.

I'm getting the best patterns out my 870 by using Remington 3" #4 with a Carlson's Dead Coyote choke. I don't think the DC shot is any better and is over priced. I've learned the hard way that each gun and choke likes some loads better than others. You just have to try several things until it all comes together.

Thanks everyone,

I was planning on patterning the gun with both the factory .665 turkey/predator choke and the Carlson before hunting with them. Hey if it don't work I'll try something else.

The Winchester #4 buck in 3 1/2" is unplated, correct? I believe Winchester is the only company that makes #4 buck in 3 1/2". I've had some success with it in the past.

The Carlson Dead Coyote is .665.They a have turkey choke that is also .665.

I believe the constriction of the chokes depends upon the average of bore diameters for a particular manufacturer. For instance the bore diameters of Browning differ from that of a Benelli.

The DC choke that I bought is designed for the Benelli Crio-plus.

Their DC choke is made for hevi-shot,bismuth and lead.

This from their website:
Dead Coyote Choke Tube
For use with Hevi-Shot, Bismuth or lead, this high performance choke tube has been specifically designed for the coyote hunter to deliver devastating downrange patterns upwards of 70 yards when shooting larger shot sizes. Produces very dense patterns when ultilizing T and Buckshot loads. Great for waterfowl and predator hunting.
NOT FOR USE WITH STEEL SHOT

PRICE: $39.95

Suspect that is the case as my Ber/Ben DC choke is .660".
