was outside tonight . Coyote barked twice then gave a sort of wavy howl ,waited a couple seconds then barked four or five times same howl . neighborhood came alive with yips from every direction . Minute or two and all was quiet . need someone to interpit this language. Thanks

If you can find a video by sceery outdoors I think it's called howling for coyotes he explains them like this. I have them written down in a notebook at home and will look it up for you tonight (at work now). But I compared them with my wildlife tech dvd and the explanations for similar sounds didn't match, and I don't have enough field experience to say. I think it might be a coyote warning howl to alert the coyotes in the area that you're a threat and he busted u. Sceery said if you here that might as well pack up immediately and move to another stand it's over. But I'll check my notes tonight and let u know if you don't find the video first

Edit: I checked my notes and Sceery says an aggressive bark followed by a fluctuating howl the coyote figured you out and is warning the other coyotes

The one that started it sounds like it didn’t like something, and was throwing out warning barks or booger barking. It’s something they often do when they bust you. This reaction is not a welcomed sound by a caller.

The rest, if just yipping and howling were probably just triggered by the sound of the one that started it. It happens often for many reasons. Could be from a caller throwing out a howl, to an ambulance siren or fire whistle in the distance. This reaction is something you can work with as a caller.

Thanks for your input . like to be outside at night . will surely pay attention to how things occur . Didnt hear any siren that night . while back grandson and i were watching four coyotes at back of the field . an ambulance came by and they came alive . they were jumping as they yipped . ( yep solar panel field directly behind them) enjoyed it anyway . have a good day .

I went and looked up that Sceery Outdoors video and it's really good. That should be the first thing new coyote hunters watch before they ever make a sound. Thanks for the tip.
You’re welcome. I only found out about it from here, someone mentioned it before. It’s incredible how many good predator hunters are here or have passed thru here dropping serious knowledge

Well I was at my local Sportmans Warehouse and they had Sceery Outdoors hand predator callers and I picked one up. I had enough rewards points that it essentially ended up being free. Can't wait to try it and see if they answer.

Been studying that program . The call I'm interested in is about forty nine dollars on line . Believe i will check at Bass Pro . thanks for the idea .

I've spent enough time in foreign countries to know if you don't know the language don't try to speak it. In Chinese, Bingsway is ice water, Beesway is urine.

Making sounds like little critters in trouble seems to work all the time for me. They all sound like free lunch. Not "I'm a coyote, trust me".

Ya, me too. I have, on two occasions managed to call in two different coyotes that had booger barked; both after my distress calls, but both at quite a distance. One, I closed the distance and imitated his "busted" barks and shot him. The other came to me after distress calls and we carried on a 40 minute close quarter argument where he refused to cross the outer border fence on ranch I was hunting.
