Boys, I recently picked up a weatherby vanguard series 1, has the tan webbed stock, good buy for sure. Anyways, I'm having trouble getting her to group. Anyone have suggestions on factory ammo and bullet weight preference for these rifles?
Thanks fellas.

Winchester supreme 150s and 165s. The only short 300 that I have loaded for seemed to like the lighter bullets.
I know that I am gonna get hate mail but IMO that is where the short mag is best. But a good 165 at 3000fps will do anything in the lower 48.

Years ago, I had a Winny Coyote in 300 WSM. Shot like a bench gun with bullets in the 168 grain range. Have to agree with Sandy.

Not the same caliber, but my Coyote 243 WSSM shot half inch groups with the light 55gr Winchesters, 1-1/2 inch with the 100gr.

What's the recoil on one of these like compared to a 30-06?

More, think 300win. Especially in a light rifle. Sort of snappy instead of a push. I like the laminated coyote, I have been trying to buy one but my buddy wont sell it.

I bought a Sako .338 Win Mag with the long barrel from a friend for $225 that had a Leupold scope on it (back in 1973/74). I took it to the range and shot it exactly three times and was all done with it. Took it back to base and sold it to a guy that saw me unloading it from the car for $250 cash. That thing kicked way too hard for me to enjoy shooting it.
