Vortex CS storyViper HS-T

So I purchase a Vortex Viper VS-T 4-16x44 MRAD, from a nameless
on-line vendor, and the scope shows up in a box with some
superficial looking damage, but the actual Vortex scope box
looked pristine. Inspection shows a very nice scope, except
for one issue. The side focus knob is locked tight, and will
not move off of the current yardage setting. So I call Vortex,
thinking maybe there is some "shipping mode" on the scope.
Nope, that should not be happening was the reply, and hold
on for "returns". The nice man e-mailed me shipping
instructions, a pre-paid FedEx label, and a warranty repair
form(editable PDF). I followed the instructions, and dropped
it off at the local FedEx office yesterday around 4:15pm CDT.
Today I get an e-mail telling me a scope will be delivered
tomorrow...How about that Leupold Warranty snobs!

This is my third Vortex Viper HS, and my fourth Vortex
Optics product...There will be more.

I have a Vortex on my AR. For the money the glass is hard to beat.

Every warranty encounter I've heard has been like the one you described. They apparently do not mess around when it comes to taking care of their customers.

I used to work for Leupold but I just purchased a Viper HS 2.5x10 over a Leupold Mark AR based in part on the Vortex no questions asked warranty. I am very happy with the optic.

I just purchased the new for 2014 Vortex Crossfire ii 3-12x56 hog scope with adjustable red dot for on my wife's new 17 Hornet. Had her out as soon as it was dark last night. It looks to be a very nice scope.

Thanks for your posts guys. I read" plenty of reviews " before my purchase & the no hassle FULL WARRANTY also helped me make up my mind.

I'm currently using a viper hs 4-16x44 lr on my savage fcp-k .308 and it's amazing so far. The only problem i have had so far is the old man using it has once forgot to adjust the focus knob when changing yardage.

This is my 4th Vortex optic, three Viper HS scopes, and
my wife has a set of Diamondback 10x42 binocs. This is the
first issue I have had with a Vortex product, and it came
out of the box that way. It could have been shipping damage,
or a factory defect. Regardless, it was repaired in a day,
and shipped over night, that same day. I know it was repaired,
since I got the same Serial # scope back. I had it on a
300 WSM yesterday, and everything works as expected, with the
scope tracking well, and the glass is very clear edge to edge
at all magnification settings. And I am the first person, I
have known firsthand that had a Vortex returned. I guess
I am not seeing the "most get to use Vortex CS" comment
as objective, or based on my experience.

So Wicka, given the previous comments about Vortex needing
good customer service, how many of these have gone back
to Vortex, for service? Just curious since some venerable
members here seem to think it is a big number.

Haven't needed to send a single one back, I know of about 15 other guys that have them and not one has gone back to my knowledge.
Haven't heard of anyone sending one back yet.
Asked the guys at the sports store and they said they had to return a vortex digital camera adapter for a spotting scope.

I just purchased a Viper PST. Saw it was made in the Phillipines, same as Burris. Wonder if it is made at the same place as Burris?

I have a few vortex scopes and have never needed the warranty. Im always glad to hear great reports of CS though, just adds piece of mind should i ever need to use it.

Call me on the fence.

My first Vortex was a SPARC when they first came out. I worked great, but I ended up knocking the control module off of the optic. Of course, Vortex replaced the optic without question. The replacement was defective from the box, the elevation absolutely would not work. At all, no matter how much your turned the screw. I returned it, and went back to Aimpoint.

Fast forward a couple of years, and I bought one of the original 5-15 HS-Ts from Midway. Great scope, no issues. I sold that one to buy one of the newer 4-16 HS-T. I am still using that scope on my 308, and have no complaints.

I have an Eagle Optics 15-45x spotter as well. Eagle Optics is another brand of the same corporation. I had to send it back earlier this year, but this one was my fault. It rode, mounted to a tripod, in the back of my truck when I worked Lake Patrol. It rode there for well over two years, until one of the lenses in the eyepiece came unglued. In this case, I truly can vouch for their customer service, as I damaged it, and they fixed it without question.

I do think they make decent stuff, and they do have great customer service. I am not, however, as in love with them as many.

Same thing can be said about Fox pro yet it still considered by many "the best" caller out there

The big difference is that unlike Foxpro... Vortex IS NOT even close to the best scope on the market.

I own 3 Vortex scopes, and a pair of Talon HD bino's. I have never had to use the CS for a scope defect. I did have them send me a new scope bikini after I knocked one of the protective lenses out when I sat on it in my pickup. My fault, told them it was my fault, they still sent new one with no questions. Vortex may not be the best scope on the market, but dollar for dollar, you wont beat them...

What do they offer thats so great dollar for dollar?
Plenty of companies offer cheap priced scopes just like vortex.
They offer a pst model that has crap glass and known to fail often.
You could spend $1500 + on a razor and have a nice scope or just get a nightforce and have some resale later on.
I have owned plenty of vortex over the past few years and sold them all, they just dont cut it for me.
