Ultramax Remanufactured Ammo...... Does it work?

Any of you fellas having any luck with this stuff. I've heard great things about Black Hills ammo, but haven't heard much about Ultramax.

So far I've shot the 50 gr TNT, and 55 gr Soft Point loads out of my Encore .223 and they seem to do okay, but definately not as good as the reviews I've seen on Black Hills stuff. Fact is, it's a brand new barrel so I can't say if I just haven't found the ammo my gun likes yet, if the ammo truly isn't up to snuff, or if I just don't have a "shooter barrel". It's obviously too early to draw any conclusions, but I was wondering how Ultramax ammo has worked for others.

Slim, you never replied in our previous thread about how the Ultramax performed for you...What do you think about them?..Jeff.

I got a bunch of UltraMax ammo in 9mm and 223 from a friend of mine.(about 5000 rounds of each)The 223 is good stuff but I have had cases blown out in the 9mm rounds.

ULTRAMAX in My .223 is All I use, 55 Gr. SP's..WORK'S Very Well, for the $11.95 A Box of 50..Same cost as to REload..Heard the NBT's are Good Too..Coyote Wolf/ 27..Colo

I get the reman ultramax 55gr sp for $10/box. It consistently shoots sub moa out of my bushy. I understand that ultramax came to be after a family dispute at black hills ammo. I hear that a family member of black hills ammo started ultramax as competition. I don't know if it is true.

Realy I havent had a chance to play a whole bunch, Ive had access to som black hills blue box 50 grn bal tips and Ive sbeen shooting those, so far one massive exit and one golf ball sized - boy it does a number on jack rabbit though!!
Anyway I just picked up some 55 grn bal tips and I will have a chance to shoot them this weekend. Hopefully I can put a couple into a coyote or two and then Ill have something to compare to.
I talked to a couple of old codgers out at the range that swear that the 68 grn hp will " split a coyote clean open"
and if anyone would know these two would. So Im still looking for the magic bullet.

your into a different breed here... have you checked your hinge pin yet for slop?... if when you have the action open you can feel any side to side movement this may be some of the problem with your accuracy... "free float" the forearm with a #60 "O" ring on each screw and don't reef down tight on the screws when you put them back on... I always snug the rear screw first, maybe just superstitious but it seems to work for me... also may want to think about heavy duty locking lug springs for the barrel... a tighter lock up won't hurt a thing...

a wealth of info here about getting T/C's to shoot...

Thanks for the tips Leroy. I've already installed the heavy locking springs, O-rings, oversized hinge pin, heavier hammer spring, and done a trigger job.

I currently have the Bellm #1 hinge pin in it and I do have a #2 but it would be VERY tight! So tight that I would have to force the action to break open, and pound the [beeep] out of it just to get it installed. I'm not sure it's good for it to be that tight?

What do you think?

nahh... you definately don't want to pound it in...

sounds like you've got all the bases covered on the action... how many rounds do you have down the tube?... is it fouling badly?... could need the bore smoothed out some yet...

other then that you may just have one that isn't going to be a one holer...
