Tss

TSS BB shot is way overkill for coyotes and you won't get many pellets per shell with TSS BB shot.

TSS #3 shot would be my first choice for coyotes then TSS #4 ahot and TSS #2 shot and TSS BB shot would be my last choice.

I have reloaded lots of TSS loads in 3" Fiocchi hulls. Are those magnum primers Fiocchi primers? I used BPI's TPS wads with Steel powder in my 3" fiocchi 1-1/2 oz TSS loads.

Look below at what KPY Shotshell Ballistics shows for penetration and pellet count for 1-1/2 oz TSS loads.

1300 fps TSS #4 shot gets 3.70" of penetration at 78.9 yards and has about 124 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
1300 fps TSS #3 shot gets 3.70" of penetration at 96.8 yards and has about 100 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
1300 fps TSS #2 shot gets 3.70" of penetration at 115.5 yards and has about 81 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
1300 fps TSS #BB shot gets 3.70" of penetration at 175.2 yards and has about 47 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.

A few weeks ago I got excited and shot to quickly on a coyote that was less than 30 yards away with 1-1/2 oz of TSS #2 shot. I hit the coyote on all 3 shots but didn't hit the coyote with my full pattern centered on the coyote. This coyote ended up getting away from me.

When I first started shooting coyotes with denser than lead T shot "about 50 pellets per shell" and Rem HD BB shot " about 70 pellets per shell, it didn't take long to see that 70 good pellets killed coyotes more efficiently than 50 bad a$$ pellets did.

For killing coyotes at 70 yards and less 1-1/2 oz of TSS #3 shot with 100 pellets per shell will work much better than TSS BB shot with only about 47 pellets per shell.

Tyler I will send you a PM.

I should have mentioned how denser than lead shot and especially with TSS shot you don't need real high speed loads like you need with steel shot.

Steel shot is like a Ping Pong ball and TSS shot is like a Golf Ball.

From KPY Shotshell Ballistics

Comparing steel #3 shot to TSS #3 shot.

1700 fps steel #3 shot slows down to 765 fps at 38.3 yards and penetrates 1.70" of gel at 38.3 yards.
1300 fps TSS #3 shot slows down to 902 fps at 38.3 yards and penetrates 5.67" of gel at 38.3 yards.

The 1700 fps steel #3 shot slows down 935 fps in that 38.3 yards. The 1300 fps TSS #3 shot slows down 398 fps in that 38.3 yards.

With TSS shot you don't need big shot or really fast shot for it to work great.

There is an old post by DAA on TSS, not sure what it was called but he did extensive testing. It’s pretty amazing stuff.
He loaded 2 3/4 1 oz an 5/8 I think? And didn’t ever see a need to load 3” shells as it was a waste of shot. I recall when we were having lunch one day, I believe that he shot through a coyotes skull at 60+ yards with 4 shot (not 4 buck) yes good old pheasant load 4 shot.

Now this is what I remember , I hope he gets on and straightens me out

That is some good information

Interesting, shells being limited on what's available now I ended up with some heavy x BB in 3.5" but never made it out to try it.

Good to know the stuff I have is tungsten. Tss stuff is non existent local or online just I've found like most stuff.

The Hevi-X is 10.1 g/cc it is heavier than steel but lighter than lead.

We have improved the already-stellar performance of our Deadlier at Distance™ tungsten-based waterfowl load to give you the secret weapon on your next hunt. HEVI-X® is now HEAVIER THAN BISMUTH™. Compared to steel shotshells with the same shot size, HEVI-X® gives you 50-70% more knockdown power at 40 yards and 70-90% more knock down power at 60 yards. HEVI-X® lets you shoot 2 shot sizes smaller than you would shoot with a steel shotshell, and get 25% more pellets on target, higher down range velocity, and more consistent patterns than steel. There is nothing like HEVI-X® in the market. HEVI-X® shotshells remind you of the performance of the original HEVI-Shot® at a price you can afford.
