Triggering coyotes in August ~ Oklahoma coyote calling

I'm surprised that there are any coyotes left in Oklahoma.
It's definitely a testament to how resilient coyotes are as a species. Since man knew what a coyote was he was trying to kill it. Poison, traps, choppers, greyhounds, mange and the best guns, equipment and calls available and still, coyotes aren't just surviving. They're thriving in a world where even just merely following their instincts and being a social animal can work against them through the transferal of mange. Which was also introduced by man to control their population. I guess that's the secret to having a bunch. Kill a bunch.

That's why I have a great deal of respect for coyotes and rattlesnakes and even those dang feral hogs. They thrive in a world hell bent on killin them all. Been that way for years and they're still here and will be here long after humans are gone.

I noticed that, as well. (y)

Is that right? Hadn't heard of that.
Sarcoptic mange was first introduced in Montana over 100 years ago to by infecting wolves and coyotes with the mites and releasing them back into the wild.

And like any other time people step in and get their hands on nature, that was a failure and a stupid decision. Honestly and truthfully probably the worst thing for coyotes would be for people to not kill them. Disease would do more to their population in terms of killing them off than everyone on this website combined. All we're doing by hunting them is causing bigger litters of pups and reducing the spread of disease.

Looks like you're giving up quite a bit of trigger time for the young man. Good on ya!
About a month from now I will start triggering some. No night season until January or I'd be out now. WTG Jeremy!
I would too, they just de-regulated thermal use here less than 2 years ago. I day hunted them year around, they are picking up on it with everyone calling them now. When night hunting first opened up everywhere you went was fire, now it’s tougher

I have respect for them except feral hogs, they just multiply so fast and they are not native wildlife. I know pigs are intelligent but hunting them around here does not take a lot of skill.

Yes, I been showing a few locals how I do it. I tell them there are different ways to do it, this is just the way I do it. A lot of new people getting into it start night hunting, but learning to hunt them first in the day has advantage from my point of view
