Looking for a Thermal Scope Around $1200 for Coyote Hunting – Any Recommendations?

I’m on the hunt for a thermal scope that won’t break the bank but still delivers solid performance. Recently, I had a devastating encounter with a pack of coyotes, and unfortunately, they got the best cat I’ve ever had. Now I’m out for some vengeance, and I need a good thermal scope to help me track and eliminate these predators at night.

I’m hoping to stay in the $1200 price range, but I want something that can deliver clear imaging, reliable battery life, and the ability to detect coyotes from a decent distance. I know that thermal scopes are typically expensive, so I’m trying to find a solid, affordable option that doesn’t compromise on quality.

While browsing, I came across a great post on Stealthy Night Cat about affordable thermal scopes for coyote hunting under $1000. It offers some fantastic recommendations for those who are just starting out or looking for a budget-friendly option. However, I’m looking to push my budget a bit higher (up to $1200), so I would love to hear about options in that range that people have used and can vouch for. You can check out that post here for more ideas: Affordable Thermal Scopes for Coyote Hunting Under $1000.

Has anyone here used a thermal scope around this price point and had good success with it? I’m particularly interested in models that handle well in low-light conditions and provide a sharp, clear image of moving targets, like coyotes.

Took a quick look at your linked article. That Rattler mentioned is a 256 so the image quality isn’t going to be great for any distance. I wouldn’t go below a 384 personally. The Wraith mentioned in the article isn’t a thermal. It’s a digital night vision optic which is a different technology if you don’t already know that.

I don’t know of anything in your price range that will meet your thermal expectations. You’re probably looking at double your price range to get something reputable in a 384.

Just my thoughts. I’m not super up to date on the latest, greatest or best bargain out there, so keep that in mind. I hope someone has some better news for you.

My suggestion would be to purchase used, with the warranty. Alot of guys including me, have upgraded and sold their old scope for around 50-60% of new price. I sold my AGM Adder TS50-384 for $1500. And it was a hell of a scope for the money, no buyers remorse. IMO I wouldn't buy less than 384 resolution

It's a tough game to get into, and once you do you always want better. You could kill coyotes with the 256, just not all that far away. If you can double your budget you get into a category you'll be happy with for longer.

look at the night vision scopes and use an after market IR light like the wicked lights. or save a few more bucks and get a thermal in the 384 line.

i would go with night vision before i went with any thermal below a 384 (a 640 is better but expensive) below is a coyote around 200 yards as seen thru my pulsar digex NV scope
