Starlit night

Last night was a cold and crystal clear night. So clear that the planet parade was on full display across the prairie and badlands that I have the pleasure of hunting. It was like the “stars aligned” as it also coincides with my 2 year anniversary of sobriety.

I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate then spend the day with my wife and kids before going out for a long solo night.

I took a long drive out to some ground I’ve called earlier this fall. The little snow there was had been crusted over so it made for a noisy approach most of the night.

The coyotes weren’t to vocal for the first part of the night. Luckily they were hungry though. I used @JTPinTX Pecan Rabbit distress on a few sets where vocals didn’t produce and called in nice mature males late into the stands.

Unfortunately, I had a bad few sets on the gun and missed three coyotes in a row. Was just trying to rush shots before getting winded.

Early into the morning, the winds died down and coyotes became vocal! I started having success with vocals but made some dumb mistakes with my fox bang and buggered up a triple coming in. Shook it off and relocated to the last tract of land for the night.

I ended up finishing my last three stands with call ins and almost made a killer triple stand at the end. Overall I finished the night with 5 coyotes on the night and a reaffirming appreciation for this life we live.

Solo starlit night
