Smaller, lighter 223 suppressors?

Well now with these wait times shorter than before I dont think I can resist much longer. Years ago I set money aside, figured out what I wanted and started looking through the legal headache but a Black Friday S&W 1911TA at my local shop ruined those plans.... The tax and legal headache is what I didnt want to deal with.

I think I want to get a suppressor thats dedicated to my 16" 223 AR. Before, I wanted something I could shoot 6.5mm through as well, I still do a bit but I dont want a large can on the AR and I dont do much with the 6.5 anymore.

What is out there for 223 cans on the smaller side? And what are the downfalls? Im not too worried about getting the most suppression possible, any will help a good bit, I just dont want it to feel like ive attached a big shoe to the end of my muzzle.

Ive heard a lot of good things about the Otter Creek Polonium K, theyre on backorder on silencershop though. YHM Fat Cat is the size and weight im looking for but a bit goofy looking shape. YHM Turbo K had some pretty negative videos online so im going to avoid that.

Im totally new to suppressors, what do you gain with some of the high price suppressors? YHM and Otter Creek seem to be on the low price budget side, im not looking to spend money on a brand names alone but if Im going to have this suppressor for the rest of my life so Im not afraid to "Buy once, Cry once" if its worth it. Are any of the $1100-$1200 suppressors going to get me close to double the features and performance of a $550-$600 suppressor?

for me its all about the "silence". check the decibel ratings.

none of these will be "hollywood" quiet. that only happens with a bolt action and subsonic ammo and maybe not even then unless its a 22lr

Yeah, its too hard to tell without hearing any in person. I like the idea of the K size cans but i hear some say that many of those do quite little suppressing. Even on youtube daytime vids the YHM Turbo K had fireballs and sounded loud, and thats what all the shooters said. The Polonium K sounds decent on video and the shooters say it sounds like a midsize can. I hear the Polonium series can be gassy... Polonium K can also do 6mm, and someday, I swear, I will build a 6x6.8....

This will be mainly for hunting with a lot of carrying around and walking through brush. This will be for 16" barrels at the shortest, thats why I want to avoid a 7 inch can but I wont be clearing rooms or running through buildings. I work out a lot, im not too worried about weight, its only the fact all the weight is going on the 16" muzzle that I would like to keep it light.

I can shoot at my own place so not bothering the neighbors too much or letting everyone within 2 miles know what im doing is a concern.

Im in the middle of a big car project and I had a rare shotgun drop in my lap a couple weeks ago I couldnt pass up. Im trying to figure out if I should spend $1200 on a VX6HD 3-18 and swapping out my 1-4 VXR on my AR is going to make my shooting and hunting a better time or spending that money on a suppressor. I will end up with both eventually. But im not in a big hurry, even if i bought one today I doubt I could be hunting with it this winter and by summer this will be more financially reasonable.

That chart makes some of those Huzworks suppressors look good. Im interested in those flow through designs and I see the weight has come down on them since I looked at them 5 years ago. A Huxworks 556K is $1100, 11oz and adds 4.8" and has good decibel numbers and I hear they have almost no gas blowback. SilencerShop also has a Huxworks 6k for 6mm.

Is the extra $500 for a Huxworks worth the price???

How many of you regularly use a QD mount? Is there any changing impact, looseness or other problems?

Looking at more videos and trying to get an idea of what I would be happy with. Maybe I could do a larger quieter can with the idea of a QD for easy travel and gun case stuff.

I havent looked too hard on the QD subject but ive heard a bit of good and bad come up.

All sub 12oz cans. No firsthand experience with any of them.

I looked into the legal process through SilerncerShop, they have one of their kiosks at a shop around an hour away. I just got off the phone with him, he even has a Polonium K at his shop.

I might just head that way this week.....

I have a CB mount for my Thunderbeast Ultra 9. It sort of acts as a QD mount for the suppressor I have. It can add a variable and cause some POI shift, in my experience. Not a lot but enough to cause you to think your zeros off.

If shooting for accuracy, I would personally prefer to stick with a direct thread can. I ended up getting my CB mount rockset into my can so it acts as a direct thread now, which I prefer for my bolt guns.

Back this summer, I had a CB mount also get carbon bonded onto my barrel threads. I gave it a hard hand torque and ended up unscrewing the barrel from the action.

i dont know how anyone can decide what they want without knowing the decibel ratings. i'm not calling and asking.
Im not sure what to do about it, I dont know anywhere to go here in MN to shoot and get a feel for different suppressors, even if I found a shop in the Twin Cities that I could test stuff out, its going to be indoors with other shooters around.

At least theres a couple shops that have suppressors I can actually look at and maybe feel.

Alf shared that good chart and got me more interested in the Huxworks flow through, but youtubers say its loud despite what the chart numbers say.

Ive got today off, i might just drive down there, he has a Polonium K on the shelf, it may not be the quietest suppressor but everyone has gave it good reviews for what it is. Hopefully he has some midsize to look at also. Ive got a Fclass rifle and Nightforce collecting dust, i want to sell it but every time I pick it up I cant do it, I could pay for the suppressor and have the paperwork done in 2hrs with the drive. This is driving me crazy, I should wait a few months but I wont be going hungry if I buy a suppressor today, I will have to slow down buying sports car parts though...

My 1st can was home built via a Form1 form., & is modular, so the speak, in attachments.

The tube was threaded 1.375-24 so I used the Dead Air direct thread mounts, 1 in 1/2x28, 1 in 5/8x24, to cover any gun I wanted to use it on;

I also bought two Zeno muzzle brakes from them too, 1 in each thread, to screw on the barrels:

I also bought two Zeno adapters to screw into the can, onto the brake:

Using the brake & adapter takes the abuse off the first baffle in the can, for high round usage, & will help with recoil reduction.

For hunting, I just use the the direct thread adapter, which surprisingly, is only a couple ozs lighter.

All that to say, when I went shopping for a production can, I went with the Dead Air Nomad Ti, as it was threaded for the attachments I had.

Plenty of other cans out there are threaded 1.375-24 now, kinda considered an industry standard.

Impact shifts would be my largest concern. I dont plan on any of the tactical mag dumping kind of training or getting the can real hot, if I have to crack the seal on the QD to break carbon loose and tighten back every couple dozen rounds is no big deal, I would plan on removing and reattaching often enough anyways. Is heat and lots of shots what causes the sticking problems?

Ive got the Aero enhanced upper with the different barrel attachment and I brought it to a guy to torque the barrel on and he ended up breaking the little tool Aero sent, he torqued the heck out of it. I should be ok, and if the barrel does come loose, I wouldnt mind rechecking that toque anyways.
