I won a contest where the winner gets a Blueprinted Remington 700 in Short Action caliber of choice, with a Kreiger or Bartlein Barrel, Bedded in a MDT XRS Chassis (or equivalent pricepoint stock/chassis)… OR…$1500 cash.

If I take the gun I’m leaning 22creed, 6creed, 243, 6arc or 250Savage. Or I could take the money, setup my own gun and still have money for a bunch of ammo.

This will be a pure coyote hunting gun and max distance of 300 yards. All tripod shooting. I don’t like to blow big holes in the animal either, I keep the nice pelts. I’m a bit torn on what to do, and would appreciate input.

This one ran me about $1,100 with the KRG stock, bolt knob, threading the barrel, and trigger spring added. I’m thinking about throwing a 22 creed 12 twist barrel on it this summer.

I don’t have anymore Howas or Remington 700’s but I do really like my Seekins PH2. Think it’s $1600 ish now though. Sorry to go over the $1500 but you might be able to find a good deal. Haven’t needed to do anything to this gun. Plus rebarrels are $550 thru Seekins. Mines a 6 creed. Oh the barrel is 24 inches if that’s a deal breaker.

Take the cash and by a Ruger American😊. They have a new camo model and bronze ceracoat metal in both standard and compact. The compact is 5.6#. You will pocket 8-900 for other toys.

Believe me I’m considering it…. Those things shoot very well

Man, I'd take the custom rifle. Get it built just the way you want it. Those chasis are excellent and you'll grow to love it. I've got several. Everything you like about an ar, but it's a bolt gun. You can change the grips, stocks, accessories at will. Full length arca, you can add a night vision bridge. Most people shoot a chasis better than a traditional stock with some practice. I don't want a 6lb rifle for night hunting on a tripod, I want a 15lb rifle by the time everything is bolted on. I'm not walking far, and my gun is hauled in my eberlestock pack, so the weight is irrelevant. I'm also rarely walking more than a few hundred yards, so weight is my friend. The heavier the rifle is, the more stable it will be on the tripod, less felt recoil, more accurate shots. I'd probably have him build me a 22 nosler for your intended purpose. If you're running a suppressor, I'd stop at a 20" barrel, and if you're not, make it a 24" or even a 26". For shooting coyotes under 300y and not destroying them, I don't know if anything is better..

you're getting a shot at a FREE rifle with your choice of cartridge, for me it's a no brainer. Take the rifle, try it, it's free, if you want a lighter chassis or carbon fiber stock you have a minimal investment to finish a great build.
IF you start a new build there's always that chance a year down the road you change something anyway.
I started with my Rem 700 with a 26" barrel to lighten it up on a chassis, and put about $650 into it. I could get my barrel threaded for $50

Id take the rifle. Id say go 243 10 twist for a flat out killer. If you wanna back it down I think the 22 Nosler or 6x45 would fit the bill. I like my predator rifle to have a big selection of predator weight bullets.

.20 Dasher. Bought the Hart barrel chambered by Greg Tannel barely used for $150. Had a NIB ADL .22-250 I paid $250 for that provided the action. Rifle Basix trigger, can't remember, but about $150, it was already in my junk box. Used 40X stock for $350. Scope probably cost the most, but it was a spare I had laying around. Rings were from my junk box.
