I got out Mon., Tues., and Fri. last week for a total of 13 sets.
Mon. in the 3rd set I called a young female to breeding sounds to 100yds in about 10min. The ~20sec clip before the shot is of my view. This is 2.5 acre grown up field surrounded by thick woods dropping off into steep hollows.
The next set about 1.5 miles away is a similar field but I can only see about an acre and in front of me is tall ironweed stalks stretching for about 20yds that I considered knocking down but decided it would make too much noise for as tight as things are. As you can see, I should have taken the chance. THEY ARE KNOCKED DOWN NOW!! These 2 came in quickly to nuthatch followed by woodpecker and would not commit straight in but looped behind the knob to get downwind where one showed up, but I am sure winded me by how quickly it left. I clipped that vid from a total of almost 5 min.
The next 2 clips are from the second set Tues. night. The quick flash of white in the thicket was one that came in behind me (downwind) that was 'on retreat' by the time I got the gun repositioned to my backside
. When I got things situated back to front, I see another one coming hard down into the hollow but instead of coming towards me it is crossing parallel to me. I guess the range with my reticle and have a brain fart--I figure it is around 250 and not getting any closer and should have held a little high in the chest but DID NOT. Hence the low hit that put one of its front legs flailing in the wind when I play it in slow motion. I looked and no find that night since it took a nose-dive, played the vid in slow speed the next day, then went into the hollow for 2hrs Sat afternoon not really expecting to find it but wanted to go for a walk and was only 9 miles from home.
Fri. night was uneventful.
