scratches on casing?

Hey guys,

Just bought a new rem 700 vsf in a 22-250. I was breaking in the barrel and sighting in, when I noticed a consistent sign of scratches along the casing when chambering a round. I cleaned the gun before firing, and after every round for first shots. Should this be a concern with the barrel? Im shooting hornady 55 vmax. seperate question, you guys like 50 or 55 grain bullets better?

You can take a cotton swab and run it around the chamber to see of you may have a slight burr someplace then remove it.
 
Could be a sharp bur on the action that is scratching it on the way out as the ejector pushes it against the action.
Seen that before.
 
The feed rail will scratch the brass as it feeds out of the magazine if it has a sharp or rough edge. Drop a round into the chamber without feeding it from the mag & eject it. If the case is not scratched, then it is happening as it feeds out of the magazine, & the feed rail or ramp is a likely place to look for burrs or sharp edges. If the case is scratched every time whether it is fed from the mag or not, the burr could be in the chamber (less likely). It is not the barrel - the brass doesn't go in that far.
Unless the scratches are very deep, they are mostly a cosmetic problem, & should not hurt anything. If you find a rough or sharp edge and decide to polish it out, go light & carefully.
 
i have noticed the same but have found out that it may be a loading/ ejecting issue to where the brass rubbs along side the action or the back of the barrel where the chamber starts.

In addition to the other posts' comment, you may have a piece of machining debris clinging to the action anywhere and somewhere...

On my new Ruger 77 years ago, cases were getting scratched right through the shoulder area upon extraction...finally, after checking with the eraser head of a pencil, I found a tin foil thick piece of metal hanging in the top of the front bridge of the action, left over from manufacturing.

It easily came off, and no more scratches.
