Sabbatical's Over

Between the weather & my wheeling & dealing on a new truck, I hadn't been out for over a month. Finally on Christmas night, I decided I better get out there. We had had a bunch of snow, & the forecast was for warm temps & rain with fog. It had got up the the mid 30's that day, but by dusk it had cooled off and the snow got a crust on it. I didn't even go 100 yards from the truck, & just about turned around & went back due to the noise. I decided to get to the top of the hill, hoping the snow had melted more, but it wasn't to be. I crossed the fence anyway. I walked as slow as I could, thinking I was letting every critter out there know I was on my way. I tried walking in the grass buffer strip, but the snow had drifted in it, while quieter, it was half way to my knees making walking a real chore.

I finally made it to the 1st of 2 waterways, where it intersected the buffer strip. I set my stuff down & walked the caller down to the lower edge of the next waterway to my right & came back. I contemplated moving 10-15 yards to my right to get away from the waterway that kind of blocked my view towards the woods, but decided I was over thinking it & stayed put.

I got all set and fired up a female greeting howl, & immediately had a pair cut loose in response, just in the woods down in front of me. I turned on the video, thinking this was going to happen fast. A couple minutes go by w/o a sighting, so I started a light squeaker on the FP. I finally got one in sight that I could have shot, but I was wanting to find the other one too, hoping for a double. As it turned out, my choice of where I sat kinda bit me in the butt, because I didn't see the 2nd until he cleared the waterway below me.

I quickly got the gun on him, when he stopped, I shot. He disappeared, and when the FP switched to KIYI, the original one came hauling ass in, & when it paused, I dropped her on the spot. All this took about 15 minutes start to finish. It probably took me an hour & a half to begin this stand, & not that far from the truck.

The 1st one was in the open field about 20 yards from the fence when I shot. I found his tracks, then thought I found blood spraying on every bound like a lung shot deer. When I got the bright light on it, it was actually shit he was spraying. I tracked him to the fence and could see for another 20-25 yards where there was no blood or crap flying. Guess I literally scared the shit out of him.

Really ugly conditions for scanning & shooting with light fog, 83% humidity, & spitting snow. One of the worst nights I've ever been in.

I haven't figured out how to blend videos yet. The 1st is 3:53 long showing the 1st coyote & 1st shot. Iray has 5 minute videos, so right after the shot it stopped, & went into the next video. 2nd is only 32 seconds.

You planted #2.
Al, I use "Clip Champ" video editor and learned how from a youtube tutorial from a guy that goes by 'teachers tech'. It is 31mn long and pretty simple to follow.

That yote got an extra boost...equal and opposite reaction still holds true after all...lol.
Good to see you back after your hiatus. Happy New Year and happy hunting.

I thought the hold was good on #1, not sure if all the grass/weeds played a role or not. Expected a thump, but never heard it.

Still confused why he got spooked & did the 180, as he was still 50-60 yards from the caller. Sure looks like he saw something he didn't like.

I kept looking on YT for how to blend videos, finally found where it's not available anymore. Then I started pursuing the other options out there.

I wasted enough time I could have posted the videos several days ago, which is why I quit & just posted the pair.
