Running a Bolt Action with Thermal and Tired of Losing and/or Looking for Brass?

I use a Thermion Pro XP 50 with an AMD QD Cantilever Mount so I can move it from rifle to rifle. I stopped using my 700 in 243 because I got tired of losing Lapua brass in water and/or tall grass when I had doubles, etc come in at night.

Anyway, one of the members at Savage Shooters told me about it so I'm passing it along, if someone was looking for such a thing.

It's a Tacstar made by Lyman and the picatinny mount for the brass catcher sits between the pic rails making it flush so it can fit under your low profile scope setup.

Here are some pics.

Thanks for the share, I lost 3 brass last night ugh

Nice setup. I like the bolt action vs gas gun for more precise shooting
I have an AR 10 w/X-caliber 10 T that shoots 87 V-Max under 1/2" MOA. I want max suppression, the least amount of toxic gas to my face, I can push my loads 200 FPS faster, and I'm not tempted to go western with a bolt gun.

Awesome! What yardage are you talking? I am a long range guy
What do you consider long range? I shoot steel out to 600 yds at least once a week. Once every couple or so months I go to my buddies ranch and shoot steel at 1,500 yds with his 338 Lapua.

You might got me on this one. Rarely past 300. I do have 1 yote at 420 but I’m certain there was some luck on that one
With no shame, I have trouble with good groupings past 100 yds with gas guns/AR's. I don't claim to be a sharpshooter. I stick to bolt guns for my skill set. You should consider the 420 as an accolade! Hats off to you!

It depends on how you run your setup. I have a 6" ARCA rail on my AR's and use a Magpul PRS stock with a bag rider so that helps with consistency. I understand what you're saying and why. My son is 27 and he mostly shoots revolvers and lever actions and hardly ever shoots my AR's and he doesn't own one.

Thank you Sir I appreciate the kind words. I’ve been truly amazed with the inherent accuracy of the 6mm arc and 22arc. Course I think prof Research barrels probably are a big part of it.

Thanks for the reply. one of my fondest memories was going on a coon hunt when I was 11. My dad and I got a chance to go with a good group of guys that had some champ hounds. We got 4 in one night and I still wish I could do it again!
I too use the arca mt. I build my ARs with a handgaurd with a built in arca rail. Off a tripod it’s super steady and with the flat base makes a nice surface when I shoot out of my truck off the mirror.

With my Thermion on a Ruger, I just gum band a piece of black tee shirt 4"x10" to the top battery compartment-the cloth has a hole cut to fit over the compartment. A couple 'split shot' on the bottom hold it vertical and it deflects the brass straight down between my tripod legs.

I have no issue finding brass on land. Even use my monocular to find them, the problem is that I'm hunting in bottoms and standing in dirty swamp water and cattails
