Ruger 77/17 Hornet

I have one these on it's way and had a question regarding Ruger's ring height and what scope and objective bell have you been able to clear off the barrel with yours? I like my cheek as low as possible on the stock.

I believe the rifles come with the high rings initially and you can swap them out with Ruger for a lower height. I will be mounting a Swarovski Z5 with a 44mm bell or an overall outside diameter of 1.89". This is just a hair larger than a Leupold VX-3 40mm's outside diameter of 1.80" and would like to get away with the low rings if possible. Also, if someone is familiar with the Leupold Ruger style rings in low or medium height, I would like to hear.

Thanks

Craig

anyone ? I missed a good opportunity for one of these guns at a local auction a few yrs ago....kicking myself a bit now.

I have one myself with a weaver v16 44mm on mine.. Its got plenty of room under the bell.. I'm actually pondering selling mine.. Its had 25 rounds through it so far.

I ended up exchanging the high #5 rings that came with the rifle for the medium #4 rings. With the Z5 scope and the 44mm objective, I have just enough room to use the factory supplied lens covers. The bolt handle also just misses the scope's ocular. See for yourself:

Thank you for the replies.

I replaced the factory trigger sear & spring with the Volquartsen 77/22 target sear & spring kit and, wow, what a huge difference in trigger pull. The original pull weight was 5lb 2oz, according to my Lyman gauge, and now, it floats between 16 and 18 ozs. The trigger breaks even more clean and crisp. Can't wait to shoot it again. Very fun cartridge to shoot.
