Rolling up some money.

Thought I’d roll up some money this morning. These are 2oz loads of #3 tss. I normally load up #1

Makes me want to start rolling my own coyote loads for my shotgun. I've been loading for my rifles for about 25 years but never saw the benefit to loading for a shotgun until TSS came around.

How do they pattern in your gun?

I could roll for my scattergun all day long. It’s zin for my soul. These pattern great. Pack a punch down range for sure.

I roll my own predator loads just because most factory loads are too powerful for my old combo guns or some of the even older drillings have 16ga 2.5" chambers. I do the same with my waterfowl loads, light 2.5" Bismuth loads are unobtainium. All my shotguns have fixed.chokes. I do have an 870 set up.for predators and have HTL loads for it but haven't needed to use it for the past 20 yrs.

Today's coyote was killed at 40 long paces(35 yards) 1 1/4 oz of copper plated BBs. Five pellets in the chest with a couple lodged against the far hide a couple passed through, one in the guts passed through and one in the hips broke the rear leg. I'm pleased. These loads were made with salvaged copper plated BBs salvaged from old Federal 1 7/8 oz loads. I load NP BBs an n most of my recent loads, I just happened to find some of these old shells that n a box under the bench.

I really enjoy reloading bad a$$ shotgun shells for coyotes also. I would much rather load 1-1/2 oz of TSS #4 or #3 shot to get more loads and have less recoil. TSS #4 shot works great at 70 yards and TSS #3 shot gets plenty of penetration out past 80 yards.

By going with real heavy loads of bigger shot than is necessary you don't gain much.

Shooting 2 ounces of TSS shot at coyotes is kind of like shooting 1-1/2 oz of lead #4 shot at Dove. You can kill dove farther away with 1-1/2 oz of lead #4 shot but it won't work as good as 1-1/8 oz of lead #8 shot at 40 yards and less.

I like your choice of TSS #3 shot much better than than TSS #1 shot. 1-1/2 oz of TSS #3 shot has about 100 pellets per shell, 2 ounces of TSS #1 shot has about 89 pellets per shell. At 80 yards and less the 1-1/2 oz of TSS #3 shot may give more efficient patterns than the 2 oz loads of TSS #1 shot. There is about 100 TSS #3 shot pellets in 1-1/2 oz and only about 89 pellets in 2 oz of TSS #1 shot pellets.

I would rather get 117 TSS 1-1/2 oz loads out of 11 pounds of shot than get 88, 2 oz loads of TSS shot, out of 11 pounds of shot. I kill way more coyotes at 50 yards and less than I kill past 50 yards away. I would bet that most any coyote hunter that shoots coyotes with a shotgun can kill more coyotes with 117 shells with 100 #3 shot pellets per shell than they can kill with 88 shells that have 89 #1 shot pellets per shell.
