Past few hunts

Earlier this week I went back to the property where I called in the two black coyotes a few weeks ago. Drew a blank, but I did have a pack respond across the road, where I also have permission to hunt. So I pack up and head across the road, get set up. After about 5-6 minutes of Ol' faithful RabbitStew I see three coyotes coming right at me down the road. The lead one got less than 100 yards then stopped, the others followed. The lead coyote stepped over in the bushes on the side of the road then back into the road and started back towards me. The other two split up to try to wind the call. The lead got about 55 yards from me and I messed up. I should have stopped him, but I didn't want to spook the others so I squared up on his chest and squeezed one off while he was walking. Shot sounded good, but it hit him to far to the right. He spun a few times then hauled tail out of the road. I found some bone, fur, and blood, but no coyote. This is the first one that hasn't been a bang flop with the 6 arc.

Night before was a good night. I went to a local field and got set up. After a few minutes of RabbitStew I seen two coyotes coming in, but one hung up at around 200 yards. The other started towards me, but stayed on the tree line. She got to the edge of the field and did a 90 to me. I let her get to about 45 or so and shot her as she turned. Back to the bang flop. Fat girl.

I then called in a fox. Moved about 300 yards down the field and called in a cat. Over all it was a good night.

Hopefully you will be able to get out some before your season ends. It's snowing here right now. Supposed to get down to like 19 tonight. I plan on going out if the snow/rain stops.
Well I got out last night for 3 uneventful stands. But then I had to get myself out when one snowshoe broke through the crust and it didn’t hit bottom! Deep drifted area. Really happy nobody was around to witness the “recovery” that ensued ! Lol…

Did see a pair of grey fox. The male was dogging that poor little gal all over the place! She lost him in a brushy draw and high tailed it to the center of a large open field and just sat for a few minutes. Then He figured things out and was tearing ass across the field to her and the harassment continued.

Bob,
When your home from school and sledding you love the snow - when your 30 years older and trying to get out for a couple of stands it's a pain in the behind!

Snow is just a part of where I live Bill. I actually like hunting on snow covered ground. It’s just that this year we’ve gotten more, and it keeps coming, and we haven’t had a single thaw!

I’m just south of the Tug Hill Plateau, which is worth googling for anybody that wants to know about Northeast snowfall! If I get 2 feet of it where I am, they’ll get 4 feet there! I have friends there and it’s really bad right now. Houses, barns and businesses collapsing under the weight of the snow. Living east of Lake Ontario, those west winds give us some heavy lake effect snow for sure! This year… absolutely brutal! On top of it not melting, we’re over 24” above average.
