BBQ sauce is used to cover for poor meat, IMO. 
I do not use any sauce during cooking, and personally never add sauce unless absolutely necessary. I do mix up a great sauce for those who like sauce on their meat. Don't have the recipe handy, but, use Sweet Baby Ray's sauce and add mustard and chipotley 
sauce to taste
