NY Crow Hunting season

The other day I wanted to give some crow hunting a try, so before I went out I had a gut feeling that NY would have a season for crows and wanted to make sure I wouldn't be taking a chance of running into trouble with the DEC. So I checked and I saw that the NY season for crows is from Sept to March, and that you can only hunt them fri, sat, sun, and mon. Does anyone know why you can only hunt them 4 days a week, and why there would even be a season on crows?

It's because of a treaty with Mexico that got them to put seasons and limits on migratory birds. States can hunt them like 142 or 145 days a year so 4 days a week makes season last longer and gives more weekends. In Arkensaw it's 5 days a week.
With a electric caller especially, they are a blast to hunt. Get a few crow decoys (I have 3) and maybe an owl decoy.
A lot of peeple on here and on "crow busters" hunt them.
Some of us decided an o in people was un-needed and decided to spell it peeple.
We've probably got to much time on our hands.

Yea, our beloved liberal ex-President, Jimmy Carter, is responsible for that treaty. I used to shoot crows in the summer months, the very best time to hunt. Thanks to Jimmy and his infinite wisdom, that is no longer possible.

The states were allowed to adopt their own guidelines for hunting crows, as long as it didn't exceed the number of days the Feds says we have to hunt them in a given year. The nesting season had to be avoided too.

Virginia, in order to extend the number of days for shooting them longer during the year, went to Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Our season goes from August to March.

Any states that allow hunting every day of the week will quickly use up the allowed number of days, so crow seasons in those states will be short.

Well NY needs to stop listening to commie Georgia peanut farmers.

They might not have alot of crows down there, but, we got plenty to spare around here.

They're here year long, too.

Since when has ole peanut head jimmy been a wildlife expert?

Crows are the only Federally regulated non-migratory game bird. As was previously stated their is a limit on the number of days states are allowed to have seasons on them for.

Don't blame Jimmy. It was DU and duck hunters putting pressure on Fish and Wildlife about being able to shoot 100 mallards and pintails a day, or possibly more. Crows are important to Mexico like waterfowl is important to duck heads.
