New to predator hunting

Ive been wanting to get into coyote hunting and I have a few newbie questions to ask yall. I would be hunting in central Alabama and was planning on shotgun hunting during the day in some wooded areas near cow pastures/hay fields. I would be near a river aswell. Any tips on hunting in those types off areas/with a shotgun/what time of day is best? I know about using the wind to set up a stand but can I get around that with scent or is that a must either way? Also if yall could recommend any cheap hand/diaphragm calls especially ones that would be good for a beginner, don’t want to splurge on an ecaller yet. And if yall have any other tips for a beginner let me know.

Cover scents are a false sense of security, wind is your friend. Be very vigilant using hand calls in tight cover, coyotes can locate a sound source quite accurately in so focus is on you. With that focus on you, movement on the stand can be important.

You have a cheap hand caller with you at all times, it's your Left and Right hand.

Wet (or lick) the back of your hand and 'kiss' the wet spot, until you get a high pitched 'squeak'.

On a quiet day, I've had coyotes hear that from 2-300yds out.

Other hand calls, like a Primos, might cost $10-15, and they work, provided the caller knows how to use it.

12 gauge with number 4 buckshot or BB shot, works for me out to about 50 yards or so. pattern your gun.

no such thing as cover scent. we have had coyotes spook when they got to the spot we walked in on and we wear knee high rubber boots.

there are some nice beginner electronic calls out there for about 40 bucks but the range is limited(cass creek or western rivers) . you buy a good used / new foxpro for about 150.00
