New one…well new to me

Never know what you’ll find at my local shop.
This one was a must adopt.

S&W model 17, no dash…Serial # puts it made in 1959, only made for 2yrs (1958-1959) per my research. In between K22 and 17-1. It seems to be the shortest model run with least amount of production. The 5 screw K22 is seemingly more desirable to collectors. But the rarity this one has seems more collectible in my opinion.

All factory original including box and paperwork. I understand it should have a few little accessories which I hope to find, including a knurled screwdriver. Not sure what else would have come with it.
Maybe one of you knows.

That thing will shoot like a young rifle! I have a 17-2 and it is a beautiful piece of machinery. I used to squirrel hunt with it and killed lots of squirrel dinners with that pistol.

Nice score, has it been shot?
Yes it is used, but not much…It came in last week, with 5 other various 17 ,Odell and I happened to be there when the gentleman brought them all in…he was on our local ranges shooting team and various others. Very accomplished shooter. He recently had a stroke and will not recover from it.
This pistol was the pick of the litter and has very little use. Condition is exceptional.

Sure looks sweet, I couldn't see a turn line is why I asked.

It’s pretty much flawless other than had some green tarnish on the grip emblems and screw. Had some dust in the barrel as it’s been sitting in a rack for years from what I was told.
I do plan to shoot it, but I will have to buy another gun for a shooter.

Great snag!! Curious as to what the missing screw driver looks like. I have one that has an aluminum handle and flutes, maybe 2-2 1/2 " long. I thought it came with a S&W I had years ago.

I haven’t been able to find any info or pictures of the factory accessories
Only info I found said a knurled screwdriver, but that’s it.
Hoping someone will know so I know what to look for.

Yep, mines the ones on the far right with the aluminum handle. Had it forever and use it all the time on my reloading bench.
I had no idea there were so many variations. I think I’d need the Middle blued handled one for mine. They seem to be incredibly expensive on eBay, like 150-200$
It’s called an Sight Adjustment Tool from what I can tell, not a “screwdriver”
Pistol should have also have a short looped end cleaning rod and a brush.
I will keep trying to research, but I think that’s the only 3 additional items that would have came with it,

I saw an add for the little tool to adjust the Savage triggers. He wanted $10 for it. I have probably thrown away a hundred dollars worth. I think I still have one left.

Just thinking, I love my little screwdriver but if someone needs a "Smith and Wesson Sight Adjustment Tool" and wants to pay me $150 for it, I would gladly sell it and pay shipping. :)

I have two unopened sets of the little kit that came with the old S&W revolvers. That kit had the screwdriver, short cleaning rod, brush, and cotton mop. By the time my two grandsons get the old revolvers in their respective boxes with all the literature and those kits they might be worth some serious money.

Right after "Dirty Harry" came out I had to have a Model 29. That's when you could buy one and leave the store with both arms and both legs. It may have come with it. I really don't know where I got it. But it is handy!!
