I went to a little local show today looking for odds and ends. Ended up buying a couple of sets of ear rings for the wife. LOL! There was a guy walking around with two shotguns and a Remington 760 in 30-06. Man it was ugly. Someone tried their hand at checkering using a hacksaw I think. He was asking $300 for it and wouldn't budge. I looked at it two different times as well as probably most people in the show did. I knew there was no repairing the "checkering job" that someone did and a new stock was the only repair to bring the rifle back to somewhat good condition. I ended up walking away but part of me thinks it might have been worth the money and effort to repair the old war horse. I enjoy "projects" if I can keep from getting over my head in costs. My last project was an FN 98 Mauser. After a week of sanding and wood work it turned into a beautiful piece of walnut and the finish is as smooth as a piece of glass. An after market barrel in 6.5x55, not sure what brand, bed the action and floated the barrel and replaced the trigger with a Timney. It shoots good and looks even better. I'm kinda proud of the way it turned out.
